Hesai Secures Changan L3 Program With Second-Gen Solid-State LiDAR

Hesai has now secured over 160 production nominations from more than 40 automakers, covering all of China’s top ten brands by sales.

On March 12, China’s LiDAR maker Hesai Technology announced that its second-generation fully solid-state blind-spot LiDAR, FTX, has secured a mass-production nomination for Changan Automobile’s next-generation intelligent L3 platform vehicles.

According to the companies’ plan, the solution will jointly promote the deployment of advanced intelligent driving systems in mass-production vehicles. The companies describe the project as part of “China’s first batch of L3 LiDAR vehicles.”

In December last year, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the country’s first batch of approvals for L3 conditional autonomous driving vehicles.

Two models received approval, including one from Changan’s Deepal brand.

FTX is Hesai’s second-generation fully solid-state blind-spot LiDAR designed primarily to enhance a vehicle’s short-range environmental perception capabilities.

Compared with the previous generation, the new product delivers more than double the resolution while significantly reducing size and weight.

The unit’s weight has been reduced by about 66%, improving both vehicle integration efficiency and manufacturing cost control.

FTX also provides an ultra-wide field of view of up to 180° × 140°, designed to strengthen environmental perception in key L3 driving scenarios.

According to current plans, FTX will begin large-scale mass production deliveries in 2026.

Hesai’s partnership with Changan has been ongoing for several years.

The two companies formally established cooperation in 2022, and Hesai’s AT-series long-range LiDAR sensors have already been deployed across several models under Changan brands including Deepal and Qiyuan.

Just one day earlier, Hesai announced that its upgraded ATX LiDAR had secured production nominations for several models under BAIC Group, with mass production deliveries expected to begin as early as the second half of 2026.

Hesai’s LiDAR products are also widely used in autonomous driving operations.

Earlier in March, the production Robotaxi GXR, launched jointly by WeRide and Geely’s commercial vehicle unit Farizon, adopted multiple Hesai AT-series LiDAR sensors as its primary long-range perception hardware.

So far, Hesai has secured more than 160 mass-production nominations from over 40 automotive brands, with partners covering all of China’s top ten automakers by sales.
