- China hit 23.057 million EV charging units by end-June 2026, up 43.2% year‑on‑year.
- Private chargers dominate growth at 18.048 million units, making up 78% of the network.
- High‑power connectors exceeded 180,000 as public charging expands into counties and rural areas.
On July 28, China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) released data on the country’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for the first half of 2026.
According to data from the national charging infrastructure monitoring platform, China’s total EV charging infrastructure (piles) reached 23.057 million units by the end of June, up 43.2% year on year.
In terms of new additions, China added 560,000 charging facilities in June alone, with private charging facilities remaining the primary driver of growth.
Data showed that newly added private charging connectors reached 502,000 units in June, accounting for 89.6% of total additions. Public charging facilities increased by 58,000 units during the same period.
As new energy vehicles become increasingly common among households, residential parking spaces equipped with charging facilities have become one of the main energy replenishment methods.
By the end of June, China had 18.048 million private charging facilities, up 50.4% year on year, accounting for 78% of the country’s total charging infrastructure.

In comparison, public charging facilities totaled 5.009 million units, representing a 22.3% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, China’s public charging network continues to expand, particularly in highway, county-level and rural areas.
By the end of June, the total rated power of public charging facilities nationwide reached 247 million kW, with average power output per public charger at approximately 49.35 kW.
The registered electricity capacity for private charging facilities also reached around 155 million kVA.
Charging demand has grown more significantly in long-distance travel scenarios.
During this year’s May Day holiday, highway charging sessions nationwide reached 3.9784 million.
During the same period, charging volume totaled 94.9314 million kWh, with average daily charging volume reaching approximately 18.9863 million kWh, up 14.09% from the Spring Festival holiday period.

At the same time, the rollout of high-power charging facilities is accelerating.
By the end of June, China had built more than 180,000 high-power charging connectors, with high-rate fast charging becoming a key focus for automakers and charging operators.
The expansion of charging infrastructure into lower-tier areas is also progressing.
By the end of June, charging facility coverage across counties nationwide reached 98.61%, while charging services in township areas continued to improve.
The rapid expansion of charging infrastructure is directly linked to the continued growth of China’s new energy vehicle market.
According to data from CAAM, China’s new energy vehicle sales reached 1.643 million units in June, accounting for 58.5% of total new vehicle sales.
