On July 30, FAW-Volkswagen announced the opening of blind reservations for the all-new ID. AURA T6, a fully electric midsize SUV.
The company unveiled reservation incentives, while pricing and the full specification list will be announced at a later date.
As the first model of FAW-Volkswagen’s “Smart EV 2.0” era, the ID. AURA T6 is also among the first vehicles launched under Volkswagen’s accelerated NEV strategy for the Chinese market.
The ID. AURA T6 made its global debut at Volkswagen Brand Night in April before appearing at the Beijing Auto Show.
Unlike previous models adapted from European products, the new SUV emphasizes a “China-defined, China-developed” approach.
Its electrical and electronic architecture, intelligent driving system and smart cockpit have all been redesigned specifically for the domestic market.
The vehicle measures 4,811 mm in length, 1,879 mm in width and 1,648 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,836 mm. Customers can choose between 19-inch and 20-inch wheels.
Power comes from a single electric motor producing a maximum output of 170 kW, paired with LFP battery pack. CLTC-rated driving range is available in 550 km and 620 km versions.
The ID. AURA T6 adopts the CEA electrical and electronic architecture jointly developed by Volkswagen and XPeng.
Led by Volkswagen’s local R&D team, the platform features centralized computing and zonal control architecture while supporting full-vehicle over-the-air software updates.
The intelligent driving system is built entirely on a localized supply chain.
It features the Xingyun Intelligent Driving system developed by CARIZON, the joint venture between Volkswagen and Horizon Robotics, with an optional 192-line lidar sensor.
The vehicle is powered by Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6H intelligent driving chip, delivering 420 TOPS of computing power.
It supports functions including highway Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) and urban navigation-assisted driving, with algorithms optimized for China’s complex road environments.
The ID. AURA lineup is expected to become one of Volkswagen’s key product families in China over the coming years.
FAW-Volkswagen previously said the series will primarily target family users. The company plans to launch four new energy vehicles this year, including two ID. AURA models.
Beyond battery electric vehicles, the lineup will also expand to include plug-in hybrid and extended-range electric variants, broadening Volkswagen’s product portfolio.
More broadly, China has become a central pillar of Volkswagen Group’s new energy vehicle transformation.
At this year’s Brand Night, Volkswagen outlined a clearer product roadmap, planning to launch 13 new energy vehicle models in China in 2026 across battery electric, plug-in hybrid and extended-range powertrains.
By 2029, Volkswagen’s China lineup is expected to include more than 30 new energy models.
According to the company’s plan, new energy vehicles will account for more than half of Volkswagen’s product portfolio in China by 2027.
