FAW-Volkswagen’s ID. AURA T6 Secures 33,022 Orders in First Month

Takeaways
  • FAW‑Volkswagen swiftly sold 33,022 ID. AURA T6 orders in its first month, signaling a strategic pivot to capture Chinese EV market share with locally tailored models and features.
  • The T6 offers CLTC ranges of 540km and 660km, CATL batteries, 12.5kWh/100km consumption, 22–24 minute DC fast charging, and prices RMB 129.9K–RMB 166.9K (about $19.4K–$25.0K).
  • The model targets higher-end ADAS buyers versus BYD Song Ultra, Sealion 06, XPeng L03 and Leapmotor C10, but scaling LiDAR-equipped production, software integration and margin pressure pose execution risks.

FAW-Volkswagen announced on October 20 that its all-electric midsize SUV, the ID. AURA T6, secured 33,022 orders during its first month on sale, setting a new speed record for Volkswagen.

More than 90% of orders were for versions equipped with LiDAR, while nearly 80% came from customers buying a Volkswagen for the first time. The figures suggest strong demand for the SUV’s ADAS features alongside its overall order performance.

The ID. AURA T6 went on sale on September 20 in four variants priced from RMB 129.9K ($19.4K) to RMB 166.9K ($25.0K). Designed as a family-oriented electric SUV, it is the first model under Volkswagen’s new ID. AURA new-energy vehicle lineup.

The T6 follows what the company calls a “practical naturalism” design philosophy. Exterior features include a full-width Star Ring light bar and semi-hidden door handles. The SUV measures 4,811mm long, 1,879mm wide and 1,648mm tall, with a 2,836mm wheelbase.

The vehicle uses CATL batteries and offers CLTC-rated ranges of 540km and 660km. Its official energy consumption is 12.5kWh per 100km. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 22–24 minutes.

Inside, the T6 features the Yunqi cockpit and Xingyun intelligent driving assistance system. It is the first model to use Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6H driver-assistance chip. LiDAR-equipped versions feature a 192-line LiDAR unit and 25 sensing components, supporting urban and highway navigation assistance as well as intelligent parking.

The T6’s first-month order tally is notable given competition from models such as the BYD Song Ultra, BYD Sealion 06, XPeng L03 and Leapmotor C10, all of which sell more than 10,000 units a month.

The ID. AURA lineup is also central to Volkswagen’s product strategy in China over the next few years. FAW-Volkswagen has said it plans to launch four new-energy models in 2026, two of them under the ID. AURA nameplate. The lineup will eventually expand beyond battery electric vehicles to include plug-in hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles.
