The Denza N8 has officially appeared on China’s latest new energy vehicle purchase-tax exemption list, revealing its battery capacity and driving range after its basic specifications were filed last month.
The filing shows the Denza N8 is equipped with a 130.15 kWh battery pack, delivering up to 1,003 km of CLTC pure-electric range. The model becomes BYD’s first SUV to exceed the 1,000 km EV range mark.
The milestone is more notable given the N8’s size. Positioned as a midsize-to-large SUV, the vehicle measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width and 1,820 mm in height, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase. Its overall dimensions are close to the BMW X5.
BYD’s Denza N8 also shares the same battery capacity with the upcoming DaTang, but the DaTang’s CLTC range stands at 950 km. The gap highlights BYD’s focus on energy efficiency alongside larger battery packs.
The Denza N8 is not simply a scaled-down version of the N8L.
The exterior retains the N8L’s overall design language, but the daytime running lights receive a major revision. The N8L’s two separate DRLs are merged into a single light strip on the N8, while remaining visually separated from the main headlamps for a cleaner front-end look.
Inside, details previously released by Denza show a “Lingyun Floating Crystal Knob” at the center of the dashboard, using a crystal-cut design. The center console and door panels feature “Liuguang Shuojin” metallic trim. Seat adjustment controls are also moved onto the door panels for the first time, a layout similar to Mercedes-Benz models.
A set of leaked interior photos also shows a remote full-width display similar to layouts seen on Avatr models and the Xiaomi YU7. The design differs from the N8L’s three-screen cabin setup.
Both the official details and leaked images suggest BYD is testing a new interior design direction, moving away from styling elements that have drawn criticism in the past.
Overall, the N8 offers one of the longest pure-electric ranges among large SUVs in its segment.
Since BYD introduced its second-generation Blade Battery and Megawatt Charging system in March, the company has been leaning harder on its battery manufacturing advantage, translating it directly into longer EV range.
BYD’s lineup already includes several models with more than 1,000 km of CLTC pure-electric range, including the Denza Z9 GT at 1,036 km, the DaHan at 1,008 km, and the Denza Z9S at 1,100 km.
BYD’s in-house battery supply chain also gives the strategy a cost advantage.
The company controls a vertically integrated chain covering battery materials, cells and vehicle manufacturing. Compared with automakers that rely heavily on third-party battery suppliers, BYD has tighter control over battery costs, pack size and specifications.
That gives BYD more room to fit larger battery packs within the same price band, offering longer driving range without giving up fast-charging performance. Paired with its Megawatt Charging technology, the longer-range battery strategy is becoming a key competitive edge for BYD as it takes on other new energy vehicle makers.
