  • XPeng offers free hood-damping upgrade for GX models delivered before Aug. 26, 2026 to stop high-speed flutter.

XPeng has rolls out a free “front hood driving quality fix” service for some GX owners after reports of hood vibration during highway driving.

The service applies to some GX vehicles delivered before Aug. 26, 2026. Eligible owners can visit XPeng service centers for the upgrade at no charge.

According to XPeng, the upgrade targets front hood vibration under high-speed driving conditions. The company will add damping pads, buffer components, and optimized sealing strips to improve the issue.

Some GX owners had previously reported on social media that the front hood showed visible shaking or wave-like fluttering while driving at highway speeds. Most reports were concentrated in the 90-120 km/h range, while the issue was generally not noticeable at lower speeds.

Some owners suggested the GX’s large aluminum front hood could visually flex under airflow at high speeds because of its size and rigidity.

Discussions increased throughout July. Some owners even bought aftermarket damping pads and reinforcement parts to address the issue themselves. XPeng has now responded with an official free upgrade program.

The hood upgrade is separate from another issue that led to a recall earlier this year.

On July 24, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation said XPeng would recall 33,473 X9 vehicles starting Aug. 28. The recall covers vehicles produced between Aug. 8, 2023, and Aug. 11, 2025.

The X9 recall involved the front air springs. Manufacturing process variations could reduce air tightness, causing slow air leaks after prolonged use in hot and humid conditions. In extreme cases, the issue could affect vehicle handling.

The two cases involve different technical issues. Both highlight the role of user feedback and continuous product improvements after vehicles enter the market.

XPeng delivered 38,027 vehicles in July, up about 4% year on year. The GX contributed 7,016 deliveries. Cumulative GX deliveries reached 14,023 units during its first three months on sale.
