- BYD completed its 2,000th Megawatt Flash-Charging highway station ahead of its end‑2026 target, accelerating nationwide network buildout to capture long‑distance EV charging demand.
- The second‑generation system supports a 1,000V platform with single‑gun peak output of 1,500 kW and claims 10%–70% in five minutes and 10%–97% in nine minutes.
- Direct rivals like Geely now offer higher peak power (2,250 kW) and faster real‑world times, raising execution risks for BYD around technology parity, scaling urban rollouts, and competitive margin pressure.
BYD has completed its 2,000th Megawatt Flash-Charging highway station, marking a key milestone in the rollout of its nationwide high-speed charging network under the “Lightning China” strategy.
The automaker launched its second-generation flash-charging technology on March 5. Combined with its second-generation Blade Battery and new-generation flash chargers, the system supports a 1,000V high-voltage platform, with a maximum single-gun charging output of 1,500 kW.

BYD said vehicles equipped with the technology can charge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes under standard conditions.
When the technology was introduced, BYD set a target of completing 2,000 highway Megawatt Flash-Charging stations by the end of 2026. The company has now reached that milestone ahead of schedule, completing the rollout in late September before China’s Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday travel peak.
Beyond highway charging, BYD is also expanding its urban flash-charging network. As of Sept. 24, the company had deployed 11,586 Megawatt Flash-Charging stations nationwide, achieving more than half of its annual target of 20,000 stations.

Meanwhile, competition in ultra-fast charging is intensifying. On Sept. 23, Geely introduced its next-generation AI Smart Charging technology and launched the fifth-generation Geely AI Smart Charging station.
Geely said its Aegis Golden Brick Battery supports a maximum 12C charging rate. In real-world testing, vehicles equipped with the battery, including the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001, achieved 10%-70% charging in 4 minutes 30 seconds and 10%-97% charging in 8 minutes 40 seconds.
The fifth-generation Geely AI Smart Charging station delivers a peak charging power of 2,250 kW, exceeding the 1,500 kW maximum output of BYD’s Megawatt Flash-Charging system.

China’s EV charging infrastructure continues to expand rapidly.
Data from China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) showed that China had 24.223 million EV charging facilities (connectors) by the end of August 2026, up 39.6% year over year.
Public charging facilities totaled 5.16 million units, up 19.5% year over year, with a combined rated power of 262 million kW and an average output of around 50.69 kW per charger. Private charging facilities reached 19.063 million units, up 46.3% year over year.
