Belgium Passenger Car Registrations Fall 5.9% in Oct, Most Chinese Brands Grow

Takeaways
  • Chinese brands sharply increased Belgian registrations amid a cooling market, leveraging lower-priced EV entries and rapid dealer expansion to take share from incumbents and grow volume quickly.
  • BYD totaled 838 October registrations and 7,510 YTD units; XPeng 262 in October and 2,010 YTD; Tesla registered 488 in October and 11,132 YTD.
  • Targeting mainstream electrified segments against BMW, VW and Mercedes, execution risks include scaling dealer networks, supply constraints for rapid ramp-ups, and sustaining margins amid intense price competition.

Belgium recorded 31,949 new passenger car registrations in October 2026, down 5.9% YoY, according to the latest data from the Belgian automotive federation FEBIAC and the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport (SPF Mobilité & Transports).

From January to October, registrations totaled 352,323 units, edging down 1.5% YoY as the market remained broadly stable.

Against this backdrop, most Chinese automakers continued to expand in Belgium, posting strong year-on-year gains despite the broader market decline.
