- NIO will unveil a special-edition ES8 at the 2026 Guangzhou Auto Show, extending exterior and interior design variants to broaden appeal amid lineup diversification and sales pressure.
- The third-generation ES8 retains 900V architecture, dual-motor AWD and existing battery specs, with outright prices from RMB 382,800 (about $57,580) to RMB 446,800 (about $67,200), and BaaS from RMB 274,800 (about $41,300) to RMB 338,800 (about $50,960).
- The release targets large SUV rivals in the RMB 400,000-plus segment where ES8 leads, but execution risks include sustaining monthly deliveries, managing margins on special editions, and timely launch execution.
NIO will officially launch a special edition of the ES8 at the 2026 Guangzhou Auto Show, which opens on November 27, according to a Chinese media report citing people familiar with the matter.
Based on the information currently available, the new special edition is likely to be a derivative variant featuring changes primarily to its exterior and interior.
A relevant precedent is the ES8 Obsidian Gold Special Edition, which NIO launched at the Beijing Auto Show in April this year.

That version introduced an exclusive Midnight Black paint finish, black chrome exterior trim, 22-inch forged wheels and a Yadan Orange interior theme, while retaining the existing powertrain and chassis architecture.
On that basis, the Guangzhou Auto Show edition is also expected to retain the current 900V high-voltage architecture, dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and battery specifications.
The current third-generation ES8 is a core model in NIO’s large SUV lineup. It is available in five-, six- and seven-seat configurations, with five trim levels.
Prices for vehicles purchased outright range from RMB 382,800 ($57,580) to RMB 446,800 ($67,200).
Under NIO’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model, prices range from RMB 274,800 ($41,300) to RMB 338,800 ($50,960).

The special edition would give buyers another design option, reflecting NIO’s continued effort to broaden the ES8 lineup through distinct styling themes.
The launch comes against the backdrop of strong deliveries since the third-generation ES8 went on sale.
On October 23, cumulative deliveries of the new ES8 surpassed 160,000 units, putting it at the top of both the large SUV segment and the market for vehicles priced above RMB 400,000 ($60,000).
The ES8 had already established a substantial sales base in China’s all-electric large SUV segment.
NIO’s four large SUV models together delivered 188,800 units in the first three quarters.
This gives the company a 30.16% share of the overall large SUV market and a 70.98% share of the all-electric large SUV segment.

At the company level, NIO delivered 34,246 vehicles in October, down 15.2% year on year and 8.5% month on month.
The NIO marque accounted for 18,125 deliveries, or approximately 53% of the monthly total.
From January to October, NIO Inc. delivered a cumulative 334,547 vehicles, up 38.5% year on year and setting a new record. Deliveries under the NIO marque totaled 200,113 units.
Overall, cumulative deliveries continued to grow, although the company’s October volume declined both year on year and month on month.
The ES8 special edition would therefore serve not only to expand the existing lineup but also to help sustain interest in the model at a time when NIO’s monthly deliveries are facing pressure.
