China’s high-level autonomous driving supplier Momenta said its wholly owned subsidiary, Momenta (Suzhou) Technology Co., Ltd., had signed an agreement with SAIC Motor and Yandian Technology Co., Ltd., an auto parts group under SAIC, to set up the new entity, in a November 5 filing with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Under the terms, Momenta (Suzhou) will contribute RMB 153 million ($23 million) for a 51% stake. SAIC Motor will invest RMB 75 million ($11.2 million) for 25%, while Yandian Technology will contribute RMB 72 million ($10.8 million) for the remaining 24%.

The filing said the joint venture will expand cooperation between Momenta and SAIC Motor across global markets and vehicle platforms. Its scope will cover advanced intelligent driving products and services, including Level 2 and Level 3 systems.

The partners expect the new structure to take their strategic relationship to a deeper level, support their long-term product competitiveness and enhance their ability to compete globally.

SAIC Motor was Momenta’s earliest and largest institutional strategic investor and remains its largest external shareholder. Momenta, in turn, holds a stake in SAIC’s premium electric vehicle brand IM Motors. The two companies have already worked together on production models, including the IM ADAS deployed across the IM lineup.

The joint venture could move their relationship beyond project-based procurement toward a longer-term partnership backed by a dedicated organization and shared capital. Momenta’s driver assistance systems are already used in multiple vehicles across SAIC’s portfolio, including the SAIC-Volkswagen ID ERA.9X, MG models and IM vehicles.

The partnership also aligns with Momenta’s ongoing development of Level 3 autonomous driving technology. The company has already launched its L3 development program, with the SAIC Audi AUDI E7X set to become the first model to feature the relevant system. Several other jointly developed models are also in the pipeline, with mass production targeted for 2027.

The company is also developing Robotaxi and Robovan services. Its Robotaxi operations have reached six cities worldwide, and Momenta plans to expand to more than 10 cities by the end of 2026.
