XPeng G7 Unveiled: Equipped with 3 Proprietary AI Chips, Engineered for Compute Efficiency

On June 11th, the XPeng G7 made its global debut.

As XPeng Motors’ first truly all-new model this year, the G7 comes standard with an 80.6-kWh battery offering a range of 702 km. It is offered exclusively in Max and Ultra variants, with the difference lying in the configuration of the intelligent driving chips.

The most significant highlight of the G7 is its debut of XPeng’s self-developed Turing chips. The three-chip intelligent driving platform boasts a total computing power exceeding 2,200 TOPS, claimed to be equivalent to nine Orin-X chips.

Two chips run the intelligent driving large model (VLA), while one chip handles the cabin-driving interaction large model (VLM), achieving parallel deployment on the device side.

He Xiaopeng stated that XPeng emphasizes “effective computing power,” enhancing real-world usage efficiency through architecture and compilation optimizations. He announced that the G7 will receive continuous OTA updates within the year, introducing several major features, with industry-leading new capabilities slated for release next year.

Regarding the decision to drop the previously filed 68.5-kWh battery version, Nick, the XPeng G7 product manager, explained that this was a strategic choice based on market insights.

In the 200,000-250,000 yuan price segment, range anxiety among first-time buyers or those upgrading to pure electric vehicles remains common. Therefore, the G7 opted to retain only the long-range version to enhance product appeal. Simultaneously, XPeng aims to provide users with an experience balancing range, energy consumption, and fast-charging efficiency through its integrated 800V platform and 5C battery system.

When asked about challenging the Model Y’s sales dominance in this price segment, He Xiaopeng’s response was measured.

He stated that XPeng wouldn’t blindly chase being “number one,” but rather values its own system capabilities and differentiated technological path more. “We respect the Model Y’s enduring performance, but the XPeng G7’s breakthroughs in technology and experience make it a technology-infused vehicle crafted for families, a car that satisfies both the driver and their loved ones.”

Additionally, XPeng addressed recent concerns regarding finances and the supply chain.

XPeng will invest approximately 4.5 billion yuan in AI R&D this year, with total annual R&D expenses expected to approach 10 billion yuan. The target remains achieving profitability in the fourth quarter. Concurrently, XPeng began actively compressing payment terms in the second half of last year and will fully implement its commitment to payment terms within 60 days.
