According to the latest announcement from the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), Mercedes-Benz (China) and FAW-Volkswagen have recently filed recall plans involving two major product lines: imported Mercedes-Benz A-Class/CLA/GLA models and domestically produced FAW-Volkswagen Sagitar models. The total number of affected vehicles exceeds 200,000 units.
Mercedes-Benz (China) will begin a recall on June 30, 2025, targeting 2,151 units of imported A-Class, CLA, and GLA models manufactured between December 2, 2020, and December 12, 2022. The notice states that the shape of the turbocharger housing nozzle in these vehicles may deviate from specifications, which could lead to excessive exhaust emissions under certain operating conditions—exceeding national regulatory limits and failing to meet current emission standards. To address this issue, Mercedes-Benz will offer a free software update to the engine control unit (ECU).
The other recall involves FAW-Volkswagen. Starting from July 15, 2025, a total of 202,662 Sagitar vehicles manufactured between September 1, 2018, and August 19, 2019, will be recalled. According to the notice, the issue lies in the inadequate moisture protection of the wheel speed sensors. Under conditions of high temperature and humidity, moisture may enter the sensor chip, potentially impairing the performance of the ABS and ESP systems and posing a safety risk. FAW-Volkswagen will replace the affected sensors with newly optimized components to restore normal functionality.
The two recalls highlight different types of risks: Mercedes-Benz’s recall focuses on emissions compliance, while FAW-Volkswagen’s case involves vehicle stability and braking safety.
Both companies have initiated preparations for the respective recall procedures.
