NIO’s sub-brand Firefly was recently spotted testing on public roads in Melbourne, Australia. The vehicle’s logo was deliberately covered, and it displayed local license plates.

Notably, this marks the first appearance of the right-hand drive version of the model.
Firefly is a compact all-electric vehicle developed by NIO for global markets. It has also launched a long-range road test program in Europe, covering seven countries including Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Italy. The test spans over 5,500 kilometers and is designed to evaluate real-world range, energy consumption, and cross-border charging performance.

This real-world testing is considered one of the preparatory steps ahead of overseas deliveries.
During the Shanghai Auto Show, NIO founder William Li revealed that Firefly will enter 16 countries and regions across five continents within this year, including the Netherlands, Norway, Israel, Costa Rica, Nepal, Singapore, Denmark, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, Uruguay, Colombia, Palestine, and New Zealand.

In previous discussions with prospective Firefly customers, a key reason cited for choosing this model is its continuation of NIO’s battery swap expertise.
In China, Firefly will utilize NIO’s fifth-generation battery swap stations. For overseas markets, a more flexible containerized battery swap solution may be adopted, featuring lower deployment costs and reduced infrastructure requirements.

Currently, Firefly’s overseas rollout is advancing at a brisk pace. As a critical component of NIO’s global strategy, the model’s market reception and performance abroad warrant continued observation.
