NIO Day 2025 Moves to Autumn for the First Time

NIO has confirmed that NIO Day 2025 will be held in the fall instead of its usual winter slot.

In early June, during an episode of NIO Radio, NIO President Qin Lihong hinted that the timing of NIO Day could be adjusted.

For the past few years, NIO Day has traditionally been held in December, coinciding with the year’s end—a symbolic moment for reflecting on the past year and ushering in the new one. However, launching new products in winter created some logistical challenges: right after the product reveal, the Chinese New Year holidays would quickly follow, disrupting production ramp-ups, delivery schedules, and user experience. As a result, new products often lost momentum.

About a month later, the company officially announced that NIO Day 2025 will be held in autumn, marking the first departure from the brand’s long-standing “winter tradition.”

This was not an easy decision, reflecting careful consideration of various factors.

Autumn’s milder weather will make it easier for families and children to attend, sparing them the trouble of bundling up in heavy winter coats to travel.

Moreover, holding large-scale events in winter limits city options due to harsh weather and transportation constraints. By moving to autumn, NIO can consider a wider range of host cities. The event will also avoid clashing with the busy Christmas season in December, giving overseas users more time and flexibility to participate.

Most importantly, this change allows better alignment with product launch timelines. The third-generation ES8 is scheduled for delivery in Q4, so an autumn event allows the company to showcase the new vehicle shortly before deliveries begin—ensuring a smoother and faster user experience. This also prevents the old problem of product launches bumping up against the Chinese New Year lull, which often slowed down momentum.

The shift to a new season and a new rhythm reflects NIO’s broader effort to build a more mature product and brand cadence: ensuring that product announcements, deliveries, and user experiences are tightly coordinated. The goal is to avoid losing excitement during downtime, turning new product launches into meaningful milestones in users’ lives, rather than just year-end spectacles.

As for where the event will be held this fall and what the content will include, further details will likely be released in the coming months. Many are curious to see whether NIO will bring new surprises to this long-standing community gathering known as the “Old Friends Reunion.”
