IM Motors IM5 and IM6, badged under the MG brand, made their debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with deliveries set to start in the UK in September.

The entire IM6 lineup comes standard with an 800V high-voltage platform, and the launch limited edition is equipped with air springs.

On July 10, the IM L6 and IM LS6 were officially unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed under the MG brand. These models represent the first introduction of the IM5 and IM6 to the UK market. The MG IM5 is priced from £39,450, and the IM6 starts at £47,995, with deliveries expected to begin in September.

The two models launched in the UK market do not feature the same updates as those available in the Chinese market. Therefore, the configurations of the IM5 and IM6 remain consistent with the 2024 versions of the IM L6 and IM LS6.

The MG IM5 in the UK will be available with both 75kWh and 100kWh battery packs, as well as single-motor and dual-motor versions. The standard 75kWh model starts at £39,450. The long-range 100kWh version, built on an 800V high-voltage platform, is priced at £44,995, offering a range of 441 miles (WLTP), and can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 17 minutes.

The MG IM6 starts with a 100kWh battery and an 800V high-voltage platform. The entry-level version starts at £47,995, providing a 388-mile WLTP range. Additionally, a limited edition, featuring air springs and variable-damping shock absorbers, is priced at £52,995.

Compared to the versions launched in mainland China, the IM5 and IM6’s motor power is slightly reduced, but the top configurations still offer a maximum output of over 550kW. Thanks to IM’s digital chassis and high power density silicon carbide motors, the MG IM5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, while the IM6 takes 3.5 seconds.

Unlike many competitors in the same segment, both the IM5 and IM6 come equipped with a 26.3-inch central control screen as standard, and a 10.5-inch touchscreen for the functional control area. Additionally, all IM5 models are equipped with a panoramic sunroof, double-layer laminated glass, and a specially tuned 20-speaker surround sound system.

In comparison, the Tesla Model 3 starts at £39,990 in the UK, offering a 323-mile WLTP range, while the Tesla Model Y starts at £44,990, with a 311-mile WLTP range.

In China, the IM LS6 achieved 15,631 units sold in the first half of the year, securing its position as one of the top two models in the mid-to-large pure electric SUV market. The new IM L6 has successfully ranked among the top three for mid-to-large electric sedans priced above ¥200,000 in June sales.

Looking ahead, IM is expected to introduce range-extended hybrid versions based on the IM LS6 and the new six-seat SUV in the second half of 2025.

SAIC Group’s international strategy is clearly structured. The group’s brands have entered more than 170 countries and regions, with a cumulative over 6 million units sold overseas. In the first half of 2025, sales exceeded 494,000 units, marking a 1.3% year-on-year increase.

The MG brand has been deeply embedded in the European market, ranking first among Chinese brands in Spain in June with 3,606 units sold, securing 15th place overall, just behind traditional brands like Opel and Ford. The MG ZS has become one of the most recognized Chinese models in Europe. Meanwhile, the Wuling brand focuses on Southeast Asia, where the Air EV is the first mass-produced electric microcar in Indonesia. The launch of the high-end LS6 and L6models in the UK, Norway, and Switzerland further enhances SAIC Group’s product portfolio in the European market.
