New smart #3 EV Officially Launched in China, Starting at $22,982

The new smart #3 BRABUS version features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, a sport-tuned chassis, and launch control, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 3.6 seconds.

On July 11, smart unveiled its refreshed #3, a compact all-electric SUV, with prices starting from RMB 164,900 ($22,982).

The lineup comprises four variants: the Standard, Long-Range, and AWD editions priced between RMB 164,900 and 209,900 ($22,982–$29,253), plus the high-performance BRABUS version at RMB 259,900 ($36,221).

According to smart, customers who place an order before July 31 and take delivery by September 30 will be eligible for a series of promotional benefits, including limited-time free exterior color upgrades, trade-in and repurchase subsidies, and extended warranty services.

As a model-year refresh, the new smart #3 maintains much of the previous generation’s styling, including a closed-off front fascia, full-width lighting elements, and a coupe-inspired sloping roofline. Updates are primarily focused on enhancing specific configurations rather than overhauling the overall design.

Notably, the BRABUS version features several distinctive exterior enhancements such as sleek hood vents, redesigned air ducts integrated into the lower front bumper, a new rear spoiler, and BRABUS-specific rear bumper accents. Optional 21-inch forged wheels and a contrasting red-black color scheme contribute to a bolder and more layered visual aesthetic.

Inside, the vehicle continues to follow smart’s family-style design, equipped with a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen powered by the smart OS system based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 platform. Standard features include a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, heated seats, external power output capabilities, and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

Under the skin, the new #3 offers both single-motor rear-drive (272 hp) and dual-motor all-wheel-drive (428 hp) configurations, paired with 49 kWh or 66 kWh battery packs. Depending on the version, the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range spans from 415 km to 580 km.

As smart’s top-tier offering, the #3 focuses on enhanced features and performance. According to public sales data, from January through May 2025, smart recorded total deliveries of 16,476 units in China, with the #3 accounting for 1,902 units—or roughly 11.5%—suggesting there remains room for growth in its segment.

Targeting China’s RMB 200,000 ($27,873)-class personalized EV SUV market, the smart #3 competes with models such as the Zeekr X and Volkswagen ID.4 CROZZ. While it differentiates itself with a Mercedes-Benz-tuned sporty chassis and premium design elements, the smart #3 faces competitive headwinds from the Zeekr X’s advanced tech offerings and the ID.4’s spaciousness advantage—indicating stiff market competition ahead.
