Yangwang U8L Priced at $182,000, Features 24K Gold Emblem

Following the ¥1.09 million ($152,600) Yangwang U8, BYD has unveiled the Yangwang U8L with a pre-sale price of ¥1.3 million ($182,000), continuing its expansion into the premium automotive market.

On the afternoon of July 31, BYD’s luxury sub-brand Yangwang opened pre-orders for its latest flagship model—the Yangwang U8L Dingshi Edition. The pre-sale price is set at ¥1.3 million ($182,000), with a ¥20,000 ($2,800) deposit.

The U8L measures 5,400 mm in length, 2,049 mm in width, and 1,921 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm, classifying it as a full-size executive luxury SUV. Compared to the current U8, the wheelbase is extended by 200 mm, bringing the vehicle’s length to 5.4 meters.

Dimensionally, the U8L surpasses traditional luxury SUVs like the Range Rover SV (5,258/2,047/1,870 mm, wheelbase 3,197 mm) and the Maybach GLS 600 (5,208/2,030/1,838 mm, wheelbase 3,135 mm) in interior space.

In terms of appearance, the U8L comes in two dual-tone black-and-gold finishes: Onyx Black + Solar Gold and Onyx Black + Prominence Gold. The vehicle features a 24K gold oracle-style emblem for added luxury, and even the steering wheel can be optionally customized with a gold logo.

Inside, the U8L retains the luxurious tone of the standard U8, adding a more premium purple-grey color scheme alongside the existing black-brown palette, along with extensive real wood trims.

The second row includes zero-gravity seats with 18-point massage, electric leg rests, and touchscreen armrest controls. Additional amenities include a 21.4-inch overhead display, onboard refrigerator, and Dynaudio Platinum sound system. The 2+2+2 six-seat layout enhances the “first-class on land” travel experience.

Notably, the rear of the U8L ditches the externally mounted spare tire in favor of a split tailgate design. The lower tailgate supports up to 200 kg, enabling more flexible outdoor use scenarios.

On the tech and performance front, the U8L is equipped with the new “DiSus-A” intelligent driving system featuring triple LiDAR sensors for multi-scenario assisted driving, including urban and highway settings. It also integrates BYD’s “e⁴ Platform” and the “DiSus-P” intelligent hydraulic body control system, offering capabilities such as emergency floating, stable driving after a tire blowout, and tank-like turning.

As an extended-range large SUV, the U8L uses a 2.0T range extender with a four-motor setup delivering 880 kW of total power and 1,280 N·m of torque, providing robust driving performance.

The Dingshi Edition of the U8L targets business elites and high-net-worth families. The key challenge is whether it can convince buyers to choose a domestic luxury brand over established players like BBA (BMW, Benz, Audi). Official data shows that only 759 units of the Yangwang U8 were sold in the first half of 2025. While the market remains small, Yangwang has built a distinct presence in the million-yuan new energy off-road segment.

The U8L’s ¥1.3 million ($182,000) price tag represents BYD’s renewed push into the ultra-luxury segment. Whether it will surpass the U8 in sales remains to be seen.
