On July 14, BYD unveiled the interior design of the Yangwang U8L, the latest addition to its premium sub-brand, confirming the model’s official launch in the second half of 2025.
Positioned as a full-size extended-range luxury SUV, the U8L is an extended version of the U8, featuring a longer wheelbase of 3,250 mm and overall dimensions of 5,400/2,049/1,921 mm.
According to the released details, the U8L adopts a three-row layout, with the second row offering two independent executive seats equipped with individual control screens, enhancing passenger comfort and privacy. The cabin features a brown-dominated color scheme, complemented by zero-gravity seating, fold-out tray tables, and a ceiling-mounted display, underscoring its suitability for both business and family use.

The U8L retains the signature styling cues of the U8, with a matrix-style front light design inspired by the ancient Chinese “Ding” vessel, paired with a dotted grille for strong visual identity. The exterior is finished in an obsidian black and solar gold dual-tone colorway—drawing inspiration from the traditional Chinese lacquer-gold technique—and adorned with an oracle bone script badge crafted from 24K gold, highlighting cultural sophistication and brand positioning.

Underpinning the U8L is BYD’s advanced e⁴ platform, which enables independent torque control for all four wheels. This supports off-road capabilities like tank turns and emergency floatation. The SUV also integrates BYD’s DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body control system and the “Dipilot 600 (also known as ‘God’s Eye-A’)” triple-lidar intelligent driving suite, offering assisted driving across urban and highway scenarios.

Powering the U8L is a 2.0T range extender paired with a quad-motor system that delivers a combined output of 880 kW and 1,280 Nm of torque, ensuring robust performance across varied terrain.
As China’s first off-roader NEV priced above RMB 1 million ($140,000), the original U8 has drawn significant attention since its launch. In the first half of 2025, it recorded cumulative sales of 759 units—modest in volume but notable within the high-end NEV off-road segment. The arrival of the U8L is expected to broaden Yangwang’s product lineup, attract more family and business-oriented buyers, and strengthen its foothold in the ultra-premium market.
