On the evening of September 7, CATL announced the launch of its new Shenxing Pro lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for overseas markets, while also revealing updates on its European production plans.

The Shenxing Pro is CATL’s first product equipped with its “No Propagation 3.0” (NP 3.0) safety technology. Building on earlier iterations that focused on passive protection upgrades (1.0) and active isolation (2.0), the new version introduces smoke control.
The NP 3.0 system ensures that even in the event of thermal runaway, no smoke is released, while still providing enough power for the driver to safely move the vehicle off major roads.

For the European market, CATL will offer two versions of the Shenxing Pro battery, designed to meet different performance demands: long range and ultra-fast charging.
The 122 kWh “Super Long Life & Long Range” version delivers a theoretical range of 758 km under WLTP conditions. It can charge from 10% to 80% in 15 minutes and comes with a 12-year or 1 million km warranty. According to CATL, battery degradation is limited to just 9% after 200,000 km of driving—well above industry averages.
The 110 kWh “Super-Fast Charging” version emphasizes charging efficiency, with a range of 683 km under WLTP conditions. It supports a peak charging rate of 12C, enabling a 478 km range boost in just 10 minutes. Even at -20°C, the battery can recharge 410 km within 20 minutes. Under standard conditions, charging from 20% to 80% takes 20 minutes.

CATL also highlighted its growing European presence at the launch, stating it has partnerships with over 90% of mainstream European automakers. The company has established or is building manufacturing bases in Germany, Hungary, and Spain.
Of particular note, its plant in Debrecen, eastern Hungary, is now scheduled to start operations in early 2026—months ahead of the original plan. CATL’s Europe general manager, Matt Shen, told Reuters that accelerating customer demand drove the timeline shift.

The Hungarian facility involves a total investment of €7.3 billion ($8.6 billion) and is designed for an annual capacity of 100 GWh. It will supply batteries to BMW, Stellantis, and Volkswagen, among others. The plant is expected to employ 9,000 workers, making it significantly larger than CATL’s existing factory in Thuringia, Germany.
With the debut of the Shenxing Pro and the accelerated progress of its Hungarian plant, CATL is strengthening its localized supply chain in Europe to meet surging demand in the electric vehicle market.
