The Li Auto i6 features a chassis combining front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension with full-aluminum control arms.
On September 22, Li Auto revealed the chassis design of its upcoming model, the Li Auto i6, which the company defines as a “new-form SUV.” This marks the first time the automaker has provided a relatively comprehensive look at the vehicle’s core architecture.
Built on Li Auto’s native all-electric platform, the i6 achieves a torsional rigidity of 52,014 N·m/deg, positioning it at the higher end of its class.
Combined with the low center of gravity inherent to a pure-electric structure, the chassis enhances overall driving stability.
The suspension system features a front double-wishbone and rear five-link setup, supported by full-aluminum control arms.
For ride comfort, the i6 comes equipped with a dual-chamber “Magic Carpet” air suspension that allows switching between two stiffness levels and four height settings.
The system also integrates CDC (Continuous Damping Control) shock absorbers and high-performance hydraulic bushings.
In terms of NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) control, the i6 adopts an RNC (Road Noise Cancellation) system, paired with laminated acoustic glass for the windshield, side windows, and panoramic roof.
Acoustic insulation materials cover up to 95% of the cabin, while noise-reducing tires come standard across all trims.
Beyond chassis details, recent images captured by users revealed the i6’s front trunk and rear cargo space. As Li Auto’s first model to feature a frunk, the i6 offers nearly 200 liters of storage—close to the Tesla Model Y’s 210 liters—and supports electric lift and touch-control opening.
In a notable comparison, Li Auto President Li Xinyang shared a video of the i6 undergoing a high-speed emergency obstacle-avoidance test against the Tesla Model Y.
At 120 km/h, both vehicles showed comparable stability; however, the i6 successfully avoided all obstacles, while the Model Y failed to clear them entirely.
Li Xinyang described the internationally recognized test as “handing in an answer sheet” to validate the i6’s dynamic performance under extreme conditions. Li Auto CEO Li Xiang later reposted the video, remarking:
“Before, the Model Y said, ‘Bring it on.’ Now, the Li Auto i6 has handed in its answer.”
The Li Auto i6 will be officially unveiled on September 26, with pricing expected between RMB 250,000–300,000 ($35,100–$42,130). According to Li Xiang, the company aims for monthly sales of 9,000 to 10,000 units in 2025.
