Leapmotor Mulls T03 Van Version, Poised to Be UK’s Cheapest Commercial EV

Leapmotor T03 Van version’s expected range would stay at around 165km using the existing 37.3kWh battery.

Leapmotor is considering launching a van version of its compact electric hatchback T03, which could become the cheapest commercial vehicle on sale in the UK if it goes into production, according to an interview published by Auto Express on October 15 with Damien Dally, General Manager for Leapmotor UK.

Leapmotor entered the UK market in March through a joint venture with Stellantis, rolling out its first 44 dealerships to sell the T03 and the larger C10 SUV. The B10 sedan is scheduled to follow in the fourth quarter.

The company later introduced its own “Leap-Grant” incentive scheme to replace the now-discontinued UK government subsidy for EVs, allowing the C10 to be priced as low as £32,750, roughly £1,000 below the BYD Atto 3.

The current passenger version of the T03 starts at £14,495 ($19,350)—significantly undercutting entry prices for small electric vans such as the Citroën e-C3 Van (£17,535 / $23,400) and the Dacia Spring Cargo (£16,489 / 22,000), both of which are passenger models converted into light commercial vehicles.

The T03 Van is expected to undergo similar modifications: removal of the rear seats, installation of a metal bulkhead, and replacement of rear glass with opaque panels.

However, cargo space could be a limiting factor. The T03’s 210-L boot is far smaller than the Spring Cargo’s 308 L, and Leapmotor has yet to disclose payload capacity. Even after conversion, its commercial use case is likely to be limited to lightweight urban operations rather than larger logistics tasks.

Where it may compensate is on equipment. The T03 is currently offered in a single trim with features such as keyless start, a 10-inch infotainment display and a reversing camera—all of which are expected to carry over to the van variant.

Powertrain specifications are also likely to remain unchanged, with a 37.3kWh battery and the same electric motor delivering around 165km of range.

One potential concern is safety certification. The T03 has not yet been tested by Euro NCAP, which may cause hesitation among fleet buyers.

Dally previously stated that Leapmotor plans to expand its UK network to 80 Stellantis dealerships by the end of 2025, while further widening sales channels next year.
