NIO announced plans to enter seven additional European markets—Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland and Romania—between 2025 and 2026.
Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO Inc. plans to officially launch its NIO brand and Firefly sub-brand models in Luxembourg in February 2026, according to a media report. The information was disclosed during last Sunday’s “GO Electric Day” event held in Luxembourg.
In June, NIO announced plans to enter seven additional European markets—Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland and Romania—between 2025 and 2026.
In Belgium and Luxembourg, NIO has partnered with European dealership group Hedin Automotive, marking a shift from its previous direct-sales strategy in Europe to a hybrid distribution model that relies on local dealer collaboration.
The move aims to lower operating costs and better adapt to different market environments across the region.
Based on current Belgian pricing, the ET5 and ET5T start at €62,530 ($67,200); the EL6 starts at €67,610 ($72,700); and the EL8 is priced from €115,580 ($124,300). The first Firefly model will start at €29,990 ($32,200).
Despite its small size, Luxembourg has rapidly increased its adoption of electric vehicles. Official data shows that battery-electric vehicles accounted for 27.4% of new car registrations this year, up from just 0.2% in 2015 — nearly matching internal combustion engine vehicles.
There are currently around 3,000 public charging points nationwide, averaging one charging location per kilometre of road.
Meanwhile, more than 11,000 home charging subsidy applications have been approved under the government’s Klimabonus incentive scheme.
Beyond Luxembourg, NIO has also confirmed plans to enter Singapore, Uzbekistan and Costa Rica between 2025 and 2026. Over the same period, it will begin distribution operations in Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Denmark.
