XPeng X9 Super Range-Extender Version Reveals Key Specs: 63.3 kWh Battery + 60L Fuel Tank, 1602 km Range

The XPeng X9, with its extended range architecture, retains rear-wheel steering and three-row seating while delivering an impressive 1600 km range.

As XPeng’s first extended range vehicle, the X9 Super Range-Extender Version is set to debut in October, with key details gradually being unveiled.

He Xiaopeng shared today that the X9 is the only seven-seater vehicle in the industry equipped with a 63.3 kWh battery and a 60L fuel tank combination, achieving a total range of up to 1602 km.

Before its official launch, the company revealed that the car underwent 800 days of development, involved over 1,000 test vehicles, spanned 20 countries and 330 cities, and accumulated more than 20 million km of testing.

As the launch nears, XPeng has also kicked off media test drives, with ChinaEV Home invited to participate. Due to confidentiality agreements, details of the test drive experience will be disclosed later.

Notably, during this event, XPeng also revealed the “cutaway vehicle” version of the X9 Super Range-Extender.

From the showcase image, the front compartment layout of the X9 is very compact, featuring a 1.5L engine. Despite the added fuel tank, the vehicle retains rear-wheel steering and the third-row folding storage technology, maximizing space efficiency.

According to the August MIIT announcement, the X9 Super Range-Extender has dimensions of 5316/1988/1785 mm with a 3160 mm wheelbase. The length is 23 mm longer than the pure electric version, while the other dimensions remain unchanged. With a 63.3 kWh battery, the vehicle offers a CLTC electric-only range of up to 345 km.

Currently, XPeng’s “Super-Extended Range” strategy spans multiple models, including the X9, G7, G6, and P7+, all listed in the MIIT registry.

At this year’s Munich Motor Show, He Xiaopeng told ChinaEV Home that in the future, every XPeng model will offer both electric and “Super Electric” (Super Range-Extender) options.

He explained that infrastructure differences across markets, especially in countries with underdeveloped charging networks, make the “Super Range-Extender” solution ideal for balancing range and refueling convenience.

In fact, more Chinese automakers are adopting the “Super-Extended Range” approach.

For example, the Leapmotor D19, which debuted on October 16, uses a combination of an 80 kWh battery and a 40L fuel tank, offering a pure electric CLTC range of up to 500 km.

It is expected that larger batteries and more efficient extended range systems will become mainstream. This solution not only addresses the “lack of electric sense” issue seen in traditional extended range vehicles but also provides users with longer range and smoother driving experiences.
