XPeng MONA L05 Begins Global Shipments Ahead of Oct. 29 China Launch

Takeaways
  • XPeng began global shipments of the MONA L05 ahead of its Oct. 29 China debut, signaling a push to seize share from legacy players by prioritizing international expansion and volume growth.
  • The MONA L05 offers all-electric and super range‑extender powertrains across five configurations, with pre-sale prices starting at RMB 169,800 (about $25,400), and 660 test cars logged over 5 million kilometers.
  • Targeting large five‑seat SUV buyers in 65 countries, XPeng faces execution risks from regulatory adaptation, supply and scaling demands, and the challenge of converting strong pre-orders into timely deliveries.

On Oct. 26, XPeng announced that global shipments of the MONA L05 had begun, with the model scheduled to go on sale in 65 countries and regions worldwide.

XPeng also confirmed that the MONA WORLD owners’ event will take place on October 29, when the MONA L05 will officially launch in China.

The MONA L05 is the third model in the MONA lineup and the second globally oriented product after the L03. It was developed from the outset with multiple international markets in mind.

Pre-sales began on Oct.15. The model is offered with two powertrain options — all-electric and a super range-extender version — across five configurations, with pre-sale prices starting at RMB 169,800 ($25,400).

According to Yang Guang, head of product for the MONA series, the lineup now comprises two product families: M-series sedans and L-series SUVs.

Unlike vehicles developed for a single market, the MONA L05 must accommodate differences in regulations, road conditions and driving environments across multiple countries and regions.

XPeng said it deployed 660 test vehicles during the L05’s development, accumulating more than 5 million kilometers of testing across 25 countries and regions.

The launch of the MONA L05 also builds on the series’ existing sales base.

According to official figures, cumulative deliveries of MONA models have exceeded 350,000 units in the two years since the series launched, with average monthly deliveries topping 14,000 units.

The first model, the MONA M03, has ranked as China’s best-selling all-electric sedan priced between RMB 100,000 and RMB 200,000 for 24 consecutive months.

In July this year, the second model, the MONA L03, made its global debut in Munich, Germany. It secured more than 12,000 orders in Europe in less than three months after its unveiling.

With the addition of the L05, the MONA lineup is expanding beyond sedans into the large five-seat SUV segment. The series now spans both sedan and SUV body styles.

Overseas markets are a key differentiator for the L05 compared with many rivals in its segment.

XPeng previously reported that its cumulative overseas deliveries had exceeded 100,000 vehicles, with Europe accounting for approximately 60% of the total.

In the second quarter of 2026, XPeng’s overseas sales topped 20,000 vehicles in a single quarter for the first time, up 81% year over year.

By the end of September, cumulative sales in Denmark, Norway, France and Germany had each exceeded 10,000 vehicles.

On the distribution front, XPeng had more than 500 stores in international markets as of the end of September, covering 79 countries and regions.
