First Aion UT Super Rolls Off Line with 99-Second Battery Swap

The Aion UT Super is the first private-car model to use CATL’s Chocolateswap system: 500 km range and a 99-second swap.

On November 5, the first mass-produced model of the GAC Aion UT Super, a “People’s Car” jointly developed by JD.com, GAC Group, and CATL, officially rolled off the production line at the Changsha plant.

According to informed sources, to ensure on-time delivery for the first batch of customers, the assembly line is operating at full capacity, with workers putting in three extra hours daily.

The Aion UT Super is positioned as a compact all-electric vehicle. With dimensions of 4,270/1,850/1,575 mm and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, it offers significantly more interior space.

In terms of intelligent features, the new model is equipped with the “GAC Huawei Cloud Car” system. Leveraging Huawei’s 160 TOPS computing cluster, it provides users with an enhanced interactive experience. Additionally, the vehicle features a motor with a maximum power of 100 kW and is powered by a 54.036 kWh LFP battery.

The charging and energy replenishment capabilities of the Aion UT Super are among its most anticipated features.

The GAC Aion UT Super is the first home-use model compatible with CATL’s ChocolateSwap technology. It is equipped with CATL’s No. 25 Chocolate Battery, offering a CLTC range of 500 km. The official battery swap time is stated to be 99 seconds.

During today’s event, ChinaEVHome had an in-depth experience of the Aion UT Super’s battery swap capability. Unlike NIO’s fully automated battery swap mode, the Aion UT Super requires users to manually drive the vehicle into the station for the battery swap operation. The entire process took approximately 87 seconds—faster than the advertised time.

Furthermore, the Aion UT Super is exclusively sold on the JD.com platform, pioneering a new model of e-commerce vehicle sales. The company announced that pre-sales and test drives have officially started, with the first 3,000 test-drive users eligible to receive up to RMB 600 in JD.com E-Cards, which can be directly applied to subsidize the vehicle purchase price.

It is also worth noting that on the same day, CATL inaugurated its 777th ChocolateSwap station in Changsha.

The ChocolateSwap network is expanding rapidly. According to the plan, 1,000 swap stations will be built across 45 cities in China this year. By 2026, the network will expand to over 2,500 stations across nearly 120 cities, with a long-term goal of reaching 30,000 stations.
