The updated Qin PLUS DM-i and Qin L DM-i will be officially unveiled on January 8, while the new Seal 05 DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i are set to launch on January 9.
On January 7, BYD announced it will introduce long-range versions of four of its best-selling plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models: the Qin PLUS DM-i, Qin L DM-i, Seal 05 DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i.
All four new variants will be equipped with higher-capacity batteries, delivering CLTC-rated pure electric ranges exceeding 210 km, nearly double the roughly 100 km electric-only range typically seen in comparable PHEV models.
According to the release schedule, the updated Qin PLUS DM-i and Qin L DM-i will be officially unveiled on January 8, while the new Seal 05 DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i are set to launch on January 9.
BYD said the new models will offer a combined driving range of more than 2,110 km, while fast charging from 30% to 80% will take just 20 minutes, enabling what the company describes as a “once-a-week charging” pure-electric commuting experience.
The upcoming four models will be equipped with large-capacity Blade batteries specifically developed for PHEVs.
BYD said the batteries improve energy density and, together with AI-based energy consumption management systems, deliver a doubling of pure electric range without increasing vehicle weight or compromising overall performance.
For reference, the currently available Qin PLUS DM-i offers two battery options of 7.68 kWh and 15.8 kWh, with CLTC-rated pure electric ranges of 55 km to 128 km. The model is priced between RMB 79,800 and RMB 103,800 ($11,172–$14,532).
The Qin L DM-i is currently sold in two variants, both equipped with a 15.87 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 128 km. Prices range from RMB 96,800 to RMB 106,800 ($13,552–$14,952).
The Seal 05 DM-i is offered in a single configuration with a 15.87 kWh battery and a CLTC pure electric range of 128 km, with an official guide price of RMB 79,800 ($11,172).
The Seal 06 DM-i is available in two variants, both featuring a 15.87 kWh battery and a CLTC pure electric range of 128 km, priced between RMB 96,800 and RMB 106,800 ($13,552–$14,952).
As China’s new national regulations for PHEVs take effect in 2026, raising the minimum pure electric range requirement to 100 km, PHEV products are entering a new round of technical upgrades and specification reshuffles.
By the end of 2025, cumulative sales of BYD’s PHEVs had surpassed 7.86 million units.
The launch of these long-range variants not only responds to regulatory changes and evolving consumer demand, but is also expected to intensify competition in the RMB 100,000 ($14,000) PHEV segment.
