- Li Auto’s L9 achieved 86% of its combined range target in a 1,422.8 km real-world Beijing–Shanghai test.
- The L9 ran 327.4 km pure EV before extender engagement and posted highway fuel use near 6.0 L/100 km.
- Production limits on two-tone body parts cap ramp-up, but Li Auto targets about 8,000 L9 deliveries in Q2.
Li Auto completed a real-world test of the L9 Livis on May 28, with the SUV driving from Beijing to Shanghai without refueling or recharging.
The vehicle covered 327.4 km on battery power before the range extender kicked in at 3% charge, completing the 1,422.8 km trip in 14 hours and 42 minutes.
Fuel consumption under depleted-battery highway conditions came in at 6.0 liters per 100 km.

The test simulated normal daily usage, with four passengers on board, roughly 50 kg of luggage and equipment, and cabin temperature set at 24°C.
Highways dominated the route, with an average speed of 100.7 km/h.
The vehicle started in pure EV mode. The range extender automatically engaged after battery dropped to 3%. Pure-electric highway driving reached 327.4 km.
Tang Huayin, head of Li Auto’s EV product division, said the range extender powered 94.8% of the total distance. Highway fuel consumption under charge-sustaining conditions stayed near 6.0L/100 km.

The updated L9 adopts Li Auto’s third-generation range-extender system. Its 1.5T four-cylinder generator achieves thermal efficiency between 42% and 43%.
The SUV pairs a 72.7 kWh battery pack with a 65-liter fuel tank. Official CLTC ratings put pure-electric range at 420 km and combined range at 1,650 km.
Based on test data, EV range achievement reached 77%, and combined range achievement hit 86%.
Given the L9’s full-size SUV positioning and 2.8-ton curb weight, the vehicle demonstrated strong energy management.
Notably, the test reflected realistic long-distance highway conditions, not extreme eco-driving scenarios. The results are representative of everyday usage.
The 2026 Li Auto L9 launched on May 15. The Ultra variant starts at 459.8K RMB ($66.7K); the Livis variant starts at 509.8K ($73.9K).
Li Xiang said during the company’s earnings call that monthly production capacity for the new L9 currently stands between 4,000 and 5,000 units. Supply shortages of exclusive two-tone body components remain a bottleneck in the ramp-up phase.

As a result, Q2 deliveries for the updated L9 are expected to reach roughly 8,000 units. Li Xiang said monthly sales should steadily surpass the previous-generation L9 once supply constraints ease in Q3.
For reference, Li Auto delivered 86,000 L9 units in 2024 and 45,000 units in 2025. Average monthly sales exceeded 5,000 units, with peak monthly deliveries surpassing 10,000 units.
