Pony.ai announced on Friday that it is expanding its partnership with Uber, with the two companies planning to deploy more than 2,000 Robotaxis across five European cities.
Specific deployment plans for each city will be announced in phases, with Zagreb, Croatia, where the companies already operate, serving as the initial base for the expansion.
In May, Pony.ai, Uber and Croatian mobility company Verne launched commercial Robotaxi services in Zagreb.
Under the latest plan, the Zagreb service will also be integrated into the Uber app, allowing users to hail Robotaxis directly through the platform.
Beyond Europe, the two companies will deepen their cooperation in the Middle East as they expand their global operations.
The partnership follows a fleet co-development model in which Pony.ai provides L4 autonomous-driving technology and vehicles.
Uber handles the user interface, ride-hailing, payments and customer service, while local partners manage fleet operations.
The model reduces the burden of overseas operating costs on any single company while allowing autonomous-driving firms to avoid building local mobility platforms from scratch.
Starting with Zagreb before replicating the model across additional European cities effectively tests whether Robotaxi services can move from isolated pilot programs to large-scale commercial operations.
Beyond Europe, Pony.ai is also expanding its overseas business.
The company’s Robotaxi operations now span nine countries, with passenger-carrying Robotaxi services already operating in China, Croatia, Qatar, Singapore, and South Korea.
The company said Monday that its global autonomous-driving mileage has surpassed 100 million kilometers.
In China, Pony.ai is also advancing the commercialization of Robotaxi services.
Its seventh-generation Robotaxi is ready for mass production and large-scale deployment, while the company is testing unit economics in markets including Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
The European expansion comes as Pony.ai accelerates its overseas rollout. The company previously raised its 2026 Robotaxi fleet target from 3,000 to 3,500 vehicles.
Operations are expected to cover more than 20 cities, and annual Robotaxi revenue is projected to exceed 3.5 times the 2025 level.
