BYD Retains Singapore Passenger-Car Sales Crown for 19th Month

BYD led Singapore’s passenger-car market for the 19th consecutive month in July, extending its sales streak as Chinese automakers continued to gain market share in the city-state.

Data from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority showed that new-vehicle sales reached 4,953 units in July 2026, up 7.1% year over year.

Sales for the first seven months totaled 32,097 units, an increase of 12.3% from the same period last year.

BYD sold 1,100 vehicles in July, up 25% year over year, lifting its market share to 22.2%.

The Chinese automaker has ranked first in Singapore’s overall passenger-car market every month from January 2025 through July 2026.

During the first seven months of the year, BYD sold 7,928 vehicles in Singapore, giving it a 24.7% market share.

BYD officially entered the Singapore market on July 8, 2022, through authorized local distributor Vantage Automotive.

Its first model was the Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus in China, which made its Southeast Asian debut in Singapore.

The model was launched at a starting price of S$178,888 ($140,830), including the Certificate of Entitlement.

BYD subsequently introduced the Dolphin, Seal, Sealion and Denza D9 in Singapore, covering segments ranging from family-oriented EVs to business-focused MPVs.

As BYD’s sales have expanded, Chinese automakers as a group have also gained significant ground in Singapore.

Chinese automakers sold a combined 2,473 vehicles in July, up 79.1% year over year, taking 49.9% of the market, compared with 29.9% a year earlier.

Five Chinese brands ranked among the top 10 in July. SAIC’s MG sold 233 vehicles, up 106.2% year over year.

GAC sold 232 vehicles, up 166.7%; Chery sold 200, up 66.7%; while XPeng reached 169 units, an increase of 98.8%.

By comparison, sales at several established automakers remained under pressure. Toyota, including Lexus, sold 582 vehicles in July, down 19.9% year over year.

Honda sales fell 47.1% to 243 units, while BMW sales dropped 55.4% to 206 units.

The shift in Singapore also mirrors BYD’s broader overseas expansion this year.

During the first seven months of 2026, BYD’s overseas sales approached 970,000 vehicles, up about 76% year over year.

Overseas sales reached 179,800 units in July alone, an increase of 124.3% from a year earlier.

BYD’s passenger-vehicle lineup is now available in more than 120 countries and regions worldwide, and the automaker has ranked No. 1 in new-energy vehicle sales in markets including Italy, Spain, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
