BYD, Xiaomi and NIO donate a combined RMB 22 million ($3.27 million) to support the landslide-stricken area in Gyirong, Xizang Autonomous Region; funds target emergency rescue, temporary resettlement of affected residents, post-disaster reconstruction.
Yesterday, BYD Charity Foundation donated RMB 10 million ($1.49 million) to China Charity Federation (CCF); Xiaomi Foundation for Public Good allocated RMB 10 million ($1.49 million) from disaster-preparedness funds. Funds support emergency rescue, temporary relocation, reconstruction in the affected Xizang zone.
Xiaomi said it will work with local needs; coordinate with public-interest organizations to continue relief efforts.
Today, NIO announced a RMB 2 million ($0.30 million) donation through CCF to affected areas around Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Xigazê City, Xizang Autonomous Region.
Nio tracks disaster and reconstruction progress; works with rescue teams and public-interest groups to support relief.
The landslide occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 26 on the Nepal side; swept into Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Xigazê City, Xizang.
As of 8 a.m. Aug. 27, preliminary official figures showed 3 dead, 558 missing, including 260 foreign nationals; 2 rescued.
Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China (MNR) experts said the disaster stemmed from a high-altitude glacier collapse in Nepal; not a glacial lake outburst. Ice broke loose from high ground; picked up glacial debris along the way, forming a debris flow, striking Gyirong Port at high speed.
China National Commission for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) activated a Level II response; Ministry of Finance (MOF) and MEM pre-allocated RMB 120 million ($17.85 million) in emergency funds. Funds support search, rescue, relocation, hazard removal, post-disaster recovery.
First 141 rescuers dispatched by MEM arrived at Gyirong Port; China International Search and Rescue Team (CISAR), China Anneng Construction Corporation, PowerChina deployed heavy equipment for search operations and infrastructure repair.
