- GAC Aion is repositioning the i60 with a longer-range EREV and upgraded EV variants to blunt price-driven competition and capture share in the A-segment NEV SUV market.
- EREV gets a 45.37 kWh pack and 160 kW Huawei DriveONE delivering 350 km pure electric and 1,738 km combined range; BEV variants use 165 kW motors with 56.68 kWh or 77.65 kWh packs for 520 km and 700 km.
- Targets top A-segment rivals and volume growth, but execution risks include delivering Lidar-based AD hardware at scale, channel integration strains, and margin pressure from rapid feature upgrades.
2027 Aion i60 will officially go on sale on September 15, GAC Aion announced on September 10.
The biggest change comes to the range-extender version, whose pure electric range has increased from 210 km to 350 km, while combined range reaches 1,738 km.
GAC Aion calls it the “world’s longest-range EREV.”
The key upgrades to the EREV version come from its battery and electric drive system.
Based on information disclosed so far, the 2027 i60 EREV will receive a 45.37 kWh battery pack, up about 55% from 29.165 kWh in the current model, while its drive motor will be replaced by a 160 kW Huawei DriveONE unit.
The battery-electric version is also being updated, with all variants using a 165 kW motor and 56.68 kWh or 77.65 kWh battery packs, offering ranges of 520 km and 700 km, respectively.
The vehicle’s dimensions remain largely unchanged, measuring 4,685 mm in length, 1,854 mm in width and 1,660 mm in height, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase.
Exterior changes are limited, but the new model adds a small blue smart-driving indicator and a 66-liter front trunk. Inside, it continues to feature a large central touchscreen measuring 15.6 inches.
Advanced driver assistance is another major focus of the update.
According to GAC Aion’s preview, the new model will feature a 192-line LiDAR and a single-stage end-to-end driving algorithm derived from the same technology architecture as its L4 autonomous driving system.
The current Aion i60 went on sale in November 2025, with a limited-time refreshed price starting at RMB 104,800 ($15,617).
In terms of market performance, the i60 has become a key volume driver for Hyptec-Aion.
Hyptec-Aion sold 36,383 vehicles in August 2026, up 34.5% year on year and marking its sixth consecutive month of YoY growth.
The i60 accounted for 11,027 units, making it the brand’s best-selling single model and placing it among the top three A-segment new energy SUVs.
The model has sold more than 10,000 units a month for six consecutive months, with cumulative sales exceeding 83,000 units from January through August.
On the sales-channel side, Hyptec and Aion have completed the integration of their dual-brand retail networks.
They established more than 1,000 sales and service outlets covering cities at prefecture level and above across China.
In terms of product launches, Aion has maintained a busy schedule in the second half of the year.
Since August, the brand has introduced the 2027 Aion RT and Aion UT 530 Ningde Edition, while also unveiling the Ray 7, the first model under its new Ray series.
