- BYD appears to be preparing a third-generation Han that heavily reworks exterior and interior styling while likely reusing the Han L body structure to refresh a slowing flagship model line.
- The Han series has surpassed 1M cumulative deliveries since 2020 but recorded 28,614 units Jan–Aug 2026 with monthly deliveries under 4K, signaling urgent need for a competitive redesign.
- The redesigned Han targets D-segment midsize EV competitors and BYD’s own Tang/DaHan lineup, but risks include unclear powertrain details, uncertain launch timing, and weak recent market demand.
A group of suspected spy shots of the third-generation BYD Han test vehicle has recently surfaced online.
The images suggest major changes to the front-end design compared with the current model. The new Han appears to feature a thicker light strip design on the right-side headlamp cluster.

Based on recent models from BYD’s Dynasty series, the third-generation Han may adopt a seamless full-width daytime running light design similar to the third-generation Tang. The two flagship models could move toward a more unified family design language in the future.
From the side, the new Han retains the long, low-slung profile that has defined the series, while keeping its distinctive fastback-style silhouette for a sportier appearance.

The test vehicle features multi-spoke wheels and, notably, adopts the semi-hidden door handles seen on BYD’s flagship models including DaHan and DaTang. The design has not yet appeared on the third-generation Tang.
At the rear, the prototype’s taillight design appears similar to the discontinued Han L.
The license plate position has also been moved from the rear bumper area on the current Han to the center of the tailgate, matching the layout used on the Han L.

Based on the available information, the third-generation Han may further borrow design elements from the Han L and could even share its body structure. The vehicle’s overall dimensions are also expected to move closer to the Han L.
Inside, spy shots suggest the third-generation Han may remove the current model’s standalone cylindrical embedded instrument display and switch to a more integrated dashboard layout.

The center console remains largely similar to the current model, featuring a floating infotainment screen, physical buttons and dual smartphone storage slots.

However, BYD has yet to reveal more details about the third-generation Han’s powertrain, intelligent driving features or launch timeline.
The current Han lineup is clearly approaching a model change.
As one of BYD’s most influential models, the Han series launched in 2020 and has surpassed 1M cumulative deliveries. At its peak, monthly sales exceeded 30K units.
However, sales have slowed significantly since 2026. From January to August, the Han series recorded 28,614 units in cumulative sales, with average monthly deliveries below 4K units. The Han L, launched last year, was expected to revive the lineup’s competitiveness, but its market performance has fallen short of expectations.

Against this backdrop, BYD may look to the third-generation Han’s full redesign, combined with its DaHan flagship strategy, to reignite one of its core vehicle nameplates.
