BYD MW Flash-Charging Delivers 1.22 Million Services During Seven-Day Holiday

Takeaways
  • BYD reported its Megawatt Flash-Charging network handled 1.22 million sessions for 540K users over Oct 1–7, underscoring rapid infrastructure expansion to meet surging holiday demand.
  • As of Oct 7 BYD operated 12,165 flash-charging stations in 341 cities including 2,111 highway stations; single-gun peak throughput reached 74 vehicles and 4,069 kWh daily.
  • The data positions BYD against NIO’s 9,567 stations and 1.19 million battery swaps, but execution risks include scaling station uptime, peak-day congestion and supply constraints for chargers and components.

BYD Megawatt Flash-Charging served more than 540K users and handled over 1.22 million vehicle charging sessions during China’s National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, according to the company’s holiday travel report released on October 9.

With charging from 10% to 97% taking just nine minutes, the network served a record 188,344 vehicles in a single day. A single charging gun handled as many as 74 vehicles in one day, with its highest daily energy delivery reaching 4,069 kWh.

Among the busiest locations, the top three highway flash-charging stations handled 144, 143 and 130 sessions in a single day, respectively. The top three urban stations recorded 160, 151 and 150 sessions.

BYD’s performance reflects the continued expansion of its charging network. As of October 7, the company had established 12,165 flash-charging stations across 341 Chinese cities, including 2,111 along highways.

NIO Power also set holiday records. From October 1 to 7, its 9,567 charging and battery-swapping stations nationwide delivered more than 2 million charging and swapping services.

Charging and swapping volume along highways exceeded 24.83 million kWh, up 30.8% year over year, accounting for 13.7% of the national total for highway charging and battery swapping.NIO Power provided 1.19 million battery swaps over the holiday, up 22% YoY.
