This morning, the Data-Driven New Energy WeChat official account released the weekly sales ranking for new energy vehicles (May 19-25).
The data reflects a persistent market pattern of “stable leaders, diverging startups” with strong performances from BYD, Tesla, and Li Auto. Below are the key insights:

BYD dominated with 53,300 weekly sales, maintaining an unassailable lead despite a 32.66% month-on-month decline. Following two consecutive weeks of sales drops, BYD launched a “time-limited subsidy” campaign for its Ocean and Dynasty series smart-driving models:
- Dynasty series smart-driving models start at RMB 63,800 (8,875.33 USD)
- Ocean series smart-driving models start at RMB 55,800 (7,763.51 USD)
This “subsidy + trade-in” dual strategy aims to accelerate market share expansion.
Tesla secured fourth place with 11,000 weekly sales in the NEV brand ranking.
The competitive landscape among startup automakers shows evident polarization.
Li Auto retained its top startup position with 10,500 units (+14.13% MoM). Official data shows the Li L6 Smart Driving Edition has surpassed 10,000 cumulative deliveries, achieving an average 1 delivery every 2 minutes. AITO and Leapmotor followed with 8,800 and 7,200 units respectively.
Xiaomi Auto delivered 6,800 units, constrained by its Phase 1 factory’s maximum two-shift capacity (6,000 units). Its Phase 2 factory (Q3 2025 operational) is expected to boost weekly production beyond 10,000 units.

Per data shared by blogger @WanwanECC, NIO Group achieved 6,530 total sales:
- NIO brand: 3,840 units
- Onvo: 1,560 units
- Firefly: 1,130 units
XPeng recorded 5,700 units, showing stable weekly performance. Notably, the XPeng MONA M03 MAX will launch tomorrow, potentially becoming a new growth driver.
The NEV sector is leveraging promotional campaigns to stimulate short-term demand, while startups focus on product iterations for niche markets. With upcoming models like Xiaomi’s YU7, H2 2025 is expected to see intensified competition and sharper brand differentiation.
