Dongfeng Motor Group and Nissan (China) Investment Co. signed a joint venture agreement to launch an export-focused entity, targeting international growth.
Recently, Dongfeng Motor Group and Nissan (China) Investment Co. have inked a joint venture agreement to establish a dedicated export company with a registered capital of RMB 1 billion (USD 140 million), featuring a 40-60 equity split and a 28-year operational term. This strategic alliance represents a critical response to China’s hyper-competitive automotive market, aiming to unlock overseas growth opportunities through integrated resource deployment.

The newly formed entity will leverage synergies in financial management and supply chain optimization to distribute complete vehicles, components, and aftermarket parts across targeted international markets. This move aligns with Dongfeng Nissan’s “Qi DNA+” strategic framework, which outlines plans to export 100,000 vehicles through this platform by 2025, including four Nissan-branded new energy vehicle (NEV) models.
Nissan’s global electrification roadmap further reinforces this collaboration. During the 2024 Shanghai Auto Show, company executives revealed that the Dongfeng Nissan N7 all-electric sedan (co-developed for Chinese and Japanese markets) and the Zhengzhou Nissan Frontier Pro PHEV would commence overseas sales within the next 12 months.

Financial imperatives underscore this collaboration: Nissan reported a staggering USD 4.5 billion net loss for FY2024 (April 2024-March 2025), while Dongfeng Motor Group is aggressively expanding its global footprint, with its luxury NEV brand VOYAH targeting entry into 60 countries by 2030.
Industry analysts caution that the joint venture’s success hinges on navigating regulatory approvals, optimizing cross-border logistics efficiency, and achieving product localization adaptability. These factors will ultimately determine the effectiveness of this export-driven growth strategy amid escalating global automotive competition.
