- The B05 is positioned as a crossover hatchback model, built on the LEAP 3.5 platform.
- Over the next three years, Leapmotor will develop A, B, C, and D series product lines, launching around 13 to 14 models covering the RMB 60,000 to 300,000 ($8,200–$41,100) price range.
Recently, automotive blogger @SugarDesign shared the latest spy shots of the Leapmotor B05 on social media. According to reports, the B05 is an upcoming hatchback model from the Leapmotor B series. The B series is built on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 platform, which currently includes the B10 and B01 models. The B10 starts at RMB 99,800 ($13,600), while the B01 has a starting pre-sale price of RMB 105,800 ($14,400).
Judging from the spy shots, the B05 retains Leapmotor’s signature family design language on the front fascia. However, it features a more steeply sloped hood and a shorter front overhang, distinguishing it from the current B10 and the pre-sale B01. It is speculated that the B05 will be offered exclusively as a pure electric vehicle. In addition, the B05 appears to have a higher ground clearance, suggesting that the vehicle may be positioned as a crossover, combining compact agility with the capability to handle a wider variety of road conditions.
Once officially launched, the B05 will compete against models such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Smart #1. Based on the B-series models already unveiled, the B05 is also expected to feature leading intelligent driving assistance systems in its class. According to available information, Leapmotor plans to open pre-sales for the B05 at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November this year.

In an interview with the media last December, Leapmotor founder Zhu Jiangming stated that the company will offer four product series—A, B, C, and D—over the next three years, covering the RMB 60,000 to 300,000 ($8,200–$41,100) market range. Zhu highlighted that the RMB 150,000–200,000 ($20,500–$27,400) segment is currently the largest segment in China’s automotive market, and Leapmotor has already launched the C series to cover this price range. To target the compact segment priced between RMB 100,000 and 150,000 ($13,700–$20,500), the company is developing the B series.
Among China’s new energy vehicle startups, Leapmotor is currently experiencing strong growth momentum. Data shows that as of June 2025, Leapmotor’s cumulative global deliveries exceeded 800,000 units, placing it among the top tier of emerging automakers. It has also led the Chinese new energy startup sales charts for three consecutive months. Between January and May 2025, Leapmotor ranked first in overseas shipments among Chinese new energy startups, exporting 17,200 units. By the end of June, Leapmotor’s deliveries in the first half of 2025 had surpassed 220,000 units, making it the industry’s biggest dark horse.

As a brand-new model in Leapmotor’s lineup, the B05 will form a dual-model strategy alongside the B01 to seize a share of the booming compact car market. In addition to competing against joint-venture rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3, the B05 will also face strong competition from well-established domestic models like the BYD Qin Plus and XPeng MONA M03, which already enjoy solid reputations and market share. Given the past market performance of Leapmotor’s vehicles, the B05 is expected to achieve promising sales in this segment once it launches.
