According to markings on the camouflaged test vehicle released by XPeng, the X9 range-extended version offers a pure electric range of 450 kilometers and a combined range of up to 1,500 kilometers.
On August 8, the XPeng X9 range-extended version was officially included in the 398th batch of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) “Announcement on On-road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products” as a new product. The product category is listed as “plug-in hybrid extended-range multi-purpose passenger vehicle.”

The announcement shows that the XPeng X9 range-extended version measures 5316/1988/1785 mm (length/width/height), with a wheelbase of 3160 mm. Its overall length is slightly longer than the currently available pure electric X9, which measures 5293/1988/1785 mm. The new model retains a seven-seat layout and has a curb weight of 2,750 kg, 75 kg heavier than the pure electric all-wheel-drive version (2,675 kg).
In terms of powertrain, the vehicle is equipped with a DAAE 1.5T engine and a CALB lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The drive motor’s peak power is 210 kW, slightly lower than the 235 kW of the pure electric version.
Regarding exterior design, the front face features an added grille, which is the most notable difference from the pure electric model. The overall styling continues the wide body and floating roofline design characteristic of the X9 series.

Shortly after the announcement, XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng officially confirmed that the XPeng X9 will launch in Q4 and shared more details about the vehicle.
He stated that to ensure the X9’s reliability, safety, and intelligence, the XPeng team simulated various extreme and harsh conditions that global users might encounter. Over 1,000 test vehicles have been deployed, accumulating more than 800 days of testing, covering 20 countries and 330 cities worldwide, with a total mileage exceeding 20 million kilometers.
Based on markings on official spy photos of the test vehicle, the pure electric range of the XPeng X9 range-extended version is expected to be around 450 km, with a combined range reaching 1,500 km.

The progress of this announcement aligns with XPeng’s previously released “Kunpeng Super Electric Architecture” plan: the extended-range platform will run parallel with the full-domain 800V high-voltage platform to alleviate range anxiety. The X9 range-extended version leads the rollout, with an extended-range SUV based on the G9 model to be released later.
Regarding pricing, the company has yet to disclose details. Considering the XPeng X9 pure electric version’s starting price of ¥359,800 ($50,370), the range-extended version is expected to further lower the entry barrier for customers and compete for market share against models like the Denza D9 and Zeekr 009.
Official data shows that XPeng delivered a total of 197,189 vehicles in the first half of 2025, surpassing the entire delivery volume of 2024. In Q2 alone, the X9 model achieved 7,451 deliveries, a 112% quarter-over-quarter increase.
With the brand’s market performance continuing its upward trend, the addition of the XPeng X9 range-extended version is poised to become a new growth driver for XPeng in the second half of the year.
