Founded in 2017 as a leading domestic clean appliance company, Dreame said the decision follows over a decade of preparation and strategic planning, emphasizing that it is not a short-term trend but part of the company’s long-term vision.

Dreame plans sustained investment in the automotive sector. The project has already assembled nearly 1,000 staff in its car-making division, which continues to expand.

Back in 2024, reports surfaced that Dreame had initiated a car project. The first model is a range-extended SUV originally slated for mass production in 2027. However, the company now plans to first release a prototype for demonstration and fundraising purposes. The car-making entity, Xingkong Plan (Shanghai) Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., was registered in January 2025, with the factory planned in Shanghai.

To maintain cash flow, the company intends to adopt an original design manufacturer (ODM) model to export rebadged vehicles overseas. Talks are reportedly underway for models including the BAIC BJ40, with a total of five ODM models planned for dealers to choose from.

According to internal sources, Starry Sky Plan employs a “left-hand, right-hand” strategy. Dreame founder Yu Hao explained: the “left hand” represents the ODM business, while the “right hand” is the in-house R&D vehicle project. The goal is for the “left hand” to support the “right hand.”

Dreame’s automotive team largely comes from established automakers and tech companies, including Geely, Huawei, Xiaomi, BYD, and Li Auto. The in-house R&D team currently exceeds 800 personnel. As the ODM business grows, overseas sales staff will expand to several hundred to accelerate global market development.

By the end of 2024, Dreame had filed 6,379 patents worldwide, 45% of which are invention patents, covering key smart vehicle areas such as sensor fusion, motor control, and human-machine interaction.

Additionally, Dreame has established over 6,000 offline channels in more than 100 countries and serves 30 million users globally, providing a solid domestic and international network to support future automotive sales.
