All-New XPeng P7 vs. Xiaomi SU7: The Ultimate $35k Electric Coupe Showdown

Can the All-New P7 Become the Dark Horse Driving XPeng to Break Sales Records?

On the evening of August 28th, the all-new XPeng P7 was officially launched, offering four variants with the following specific prices:

702km Long Range Ultra: 219,800 yuan
820km Super Long Range Ultra: 239,800 yuan
750km High Performance Ultra: 259,800 yuan
750km AWD Wing Ultra: 301,800 yuan

According to official data, within just 7 minutes of opening orders, the new P7 received 10,000 confirmed bookings, maintaining the high level of excitement seen before its launch.

However, in the current pure electric coupe market, the most inescapable competitor is the Xiaomi SU7. Since its debut, this model has become a blockbuster hit, emerging as a popular choice in the 200,000 to 300,000 yuan price range thanks to its strong product capabilities and the appeal of the Xiaomi brand.

Both models emphasize a younger demographic, performance, and smart features—so which of these two “7” series cars is more competitive?

Below is a brief comparison of the specifications of the two models.

Both vehicles are positioned as mid-to-large-sized sedans, with similar dimensions but their own advantages.

Specifically, the all-new XPeng P7 measures 5017/1970/1427 mm (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 3008 mm, while the Xiaomi SU7 measures 4997/1963/1440/1455 mm (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 3000 mm.

The XPeng P7 has a slight advantage in terms of length, width, and wheelbase, whereas the Xiaomi SU7 is slightly taller. These dimensional differences will primarily be reflected in interior space usability.

The XPeng P7 features a hatchback-style trunk design, offering a standard cargo capacity of 575 liters. With the rear seats folded down, this can be expanded to 1929 liters—a figure that can even compete in the SUV market. However, it is worth noting that the new P7’s frunk (front trunk) capacity is only 56 liters, but it supports external voice-activated unlocking and a washable function.

The Xiaomi SU7 offers a more balanced space arrangement, with a 517-liter trunk + 105-liter frunk combination. It should be noted, though, that the rear headroom in the SU7 is limited by its fastback design, whereas the XPeng P7 delivers better rear-seat longitudinal and lateral space thanks to its optimized roofline.

The all-new XPeng P7 holds a significant advantage in energy replenishment efficiency. The new model offers two battery options: 74.9 kWh and 92.2 kWh, providing a CLTC range of 702 km to 820 km. It is worth mentioning that the entire P7 series is equipped with an 800V high-voltage platform and 5C ultra-fast charging batteries, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 11.3 minutes.

In comparison, the Xiaomi SU7 offers three battery options: 73.6 kWh, 94.3 kWh, and 101 kWh, with a CLTC range of 700 km to 830 km. While both vehicles offer similar range capabilities, the key difference lies in the fact that only the top-tier SU7 model supports an 800V architecture, while the mid and lower trims use a 400V system, resulting in a noticeable gap in energy replenishment experience.

In terms of performance, both cars have their strengths. Comparing rear-wheel-drive versions, the XPeng P7 RWD is equipped with a 270 kW motor, outperforming the Xiaomi SU7 RWD’s 220 kW. When comparing all-wheel-drive models, the Xiaomi SU7 AWD delivers a combined power output of 495 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, while the XPeng P7 AWD offers 437 kW and achieves the same sprint in 3.7 seconds.

Intelligent technology is a core battleground for both vehicles, and it is evident that their focus areas are distinctly different.

In terms of hardware, the XPeng P7 comes standard with three Turing AI chips—two dedicated to the VLA large model and one for the VRM large model for the intelligent cabin—delivering an effective computing power of 2250 TOPS. As stated by XPeng Motors CEO He Xiaopeng, this makes it “the world’s highest in effective computing power.”

First, looking at autonomous driving capabilities, the all-new P7 is equipped with the XNGP advanced driver-assistance system, utilizing two Turing chips and 28 sensors, and supports a pure vision-based autonomous driving approach. According to the company, the new P7 Ultra’s VLA large model is designed for L3/L4 autonomy, aiming to achieve more than 10 times the end-to-end autonomous driving capability. This version of the P7 will for the first time enable high-speed human-machine co-driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h, expanding its usability across more scenarios.

The Xiaomi SU7, on the other hand, is equipped with the Xiaomi HAD system, using dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin chips (508 TOPS) and 27 sensors. Only mid-to-high-end variants of the SU7 come equipped with lidar technology.

On the intelligent cabin capabilities, the all-new XPeng P7 features one Turing AI chip and a Qualcomm 8295 in-vehicle chip. The central control area is equipped with a 15.6-inch touchscreen with a three-axis mechanical structure, allowing it to swivel 25 degrees left and right and tilt 10 degrees. Additionally, the new model comes with an 87-inch AR-HUD that can project navigation information onto the real road.

Beyond that, the new car has also made efforts in interior materials, such as Nappa leather on the steering wheel and seats, Dinamica ultra-suede on the seat side bolsters and door panels, and brushed trim accents. Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with 23 standard HIFI-grade speakers and supports shoulder-mounted speakers for both the driver and front passenger.

The Xiaomi SU7’s cabin is equipped with a single Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 in-vehicle chip and features a 16.1-inch central touchscreen paired with a 56-inch HUD. The core advantage of its cabin lies in its “ecosystem integration.” In addition to multi-screen collaboration capabilities, HyperOS enables seamless connectivity between smartphones, smart home devices, and the vehicle’s system. Users can also control their Mi Home devices through the central touchscreen.

XPeng has completely abandoned the traditional strategy of “offering stripped-down base models and slowly adding features in higher trims,” adopting instead an “entry-level full-feature” product approach. For example, all variants come standard with dual-chamber air suspension + CDC damping system, an 800V high-voltage platform, 5C ultra-fast charging batteries, and three self-developed Turing AI chips.

A Morgan Stanley report noted that the pricing is more aggressive than the market’s previous expectation of 230,000 to 250,000 yuan. This pricing strategy directly makes the entry-level version of the new P7 26,000 yuan cheaper than the mid-tier SU7 Pro from its competitor. XPeng’s management revealed that pre-orders for the new P7 have already surpassed those of all the company’s existing models.

Just this morning, XPeng Motors officially announced that the all-new P7 has officially begun deliveries today. With a full model change and a tight delivery schedule, can the all-new P7 become the dark horse that drives XPeng to achieve record-breaking sales? We’ll be watching closely.
