China NEV Weekly Sales Ranking (Week 36): Tesla Hits 14.4 K, NIO Inc. 6.3 K, Xiaomi 6.2 K

Last week saw a broad dip in sales, driven by delivery scheduling at the start of the month.

Due to delivery scheduling at the beginning of the month, overall sales fell across the board, with most automakers posting declines of more than 20% week-on-week.

Still, as the “Golden September and Silver October” sales season kicks off, automakers remain proactive, and subtle shifts in market dynamics are emerging.

BYD retained the top spot with 52,030 units sold, though sales dropped 25.1% from 69,400 in Week 35. The automaker has now recorded two consecutive weeks of decline, reflecting growing pressure in its domestic market.

At the same time, BYD is accelerating its overseas push. The Seal 06 DM-i Touring has already launched in Europe, and the company plans to open more than 1,000 stores across 32 European countries by the end of the year. BYD also aims to achieve full-scale localized EV production in Europe by 2028.

Tesla delivered 14,360 vehicles last week, up 14.9% week-on-week, making it one of the few brands to post growth. Its Model Y led the SUV category with 9,300 units sold.

Market sources revealed that the newly introduced six-seat Model Y L is drawing nearly 10,000 daily orders, with the first nationwide deliveries having started last week—a trend expected to drive further sales momentum.

Leapmotor delivered 10,790 units, down 22.2% from the prior week. However, its product pipeline is accelerating: the new Lafa5 sports sedan debuted at the IAA Mobility in Munich with pre-orders already open, ahead of a planned domestic launch in Q4.

Huawei-backed Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) recorded sales of 8,878 units, down 24.3%. AITO contributed 7,400 units, remaining its core volume driver.

On the product side, the all-new ES8 will debut at NIO Day 2025 on September 20. Cumulative deliveries of the ONVO L90 have surpassed 12,500 units, keeping it in the weekly large SUV Top 3 for six consecutive weeks. NIO expects ONVO’s weekly production capacity to rise to about 6,000 units in Q4.

Xiaomi Auto delivered 6,154 units, down 48.2%. After weeks of rapid growth, sales slowed at the start of the month, with the SU7 and YU7 contributing 3,164 and 2,990 units, respectively.

Company data shows Xiaomi Auto delivered more than 30,000 units in both July and August, bringing cumulative deliveries to 330,000 as of the end of August—just shy of its 2025 full-year target of 350,000.

Li Auto posted 6,110 units, down 27.6% week-on-week. Founder Li Xiang shared on social media last week that the company aims to compete in the high-end pure electric segment, maintaining a monthly sales target of 18,000–20,000 units.

Overall, Week 36 saw broad-based declines in NEV sales at the start of September, with Tesla standing out as a rare bright spot.

As new models roll out and overseas expansion accelerates, weekly sales data are expected to diverge further in mid-to-late September.
