China NEV Weekly Sales Ranking (Week 38): Tesla Hits 17.3K, Xiaomi 10.8K, NIO Inc. 6.7K

NIO Inc. delivered 6,666 vehicles last week, including 2,577 under the NIO brand, 2,777 from its ONVO brand, and 1,312 Firefly units.

China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market rankings for Week 38 (September 15–21) have been released.

It shows an overall recovery trend as the “Golden September, Silver October” sales season enters mid-stage. However, automakers showed diverging momentum, with notable shifts in rankings and competitive landscape.

BYD continued to dominate with 70,750 units sold, up 9.2% from Week 37’s 64,800 units. Despite ongoing market pressures, BYD maintained its stronghold across mainstream sedan and SUV segments, bolstered by peak-season demand.

Tesla delivered 17,260 vehicles last week, an 11% increase from the prior week, extending its upward trajectory. Model Y accounted for 11,190 units, while Model 3 sales reached 6,060 units.

With the six-seat Model Y L continuing to sell strongly, delivery timelines have now stretched to November 2025, suggesting further growth potential once production scales up.

Leapmotor posted 12,910 units, edging down 0.8% from 13,020 units the week before but remaining at high levels.

Founder and CEO Zhu Jiangming disclosed that during the weekend of September 20–21, Leapmotor sales surpassed 8,000 units, with both the C10 and B01 models each receiving over 1,000 single-day orders.

On September 19, Leapmotor announced that its new flagship SUV, the D19, will debut globally on October 16 as the first model in its luxury D-series lineup.

The Huawei-backed Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) delivered 12,600 units, up 20.7% week-on-week, ranking near the top among emerging EV players.

Within HIMA, the AITO brand remained the key driver with 10,250 units. Notably, the M8 and M9 models secured the top two spots on the large SUV sales chart, with 5,200 and 2,620 units respectively. Meanwhile, the Luxeed brand recorded 1,450 units, Stelato 450 units, and Maextro 485 units.

Xiaomi sold 10,760 vehicles, up 9.9% from 9,789 the previous week. The SU7 and YU7 performed nearly evenly with 5,350 and 5,410 units respectively.

The announcement by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation of a recall of over 110,000 SU7 Standard Edition vehicles coincided with Xiaomi’s rollout of the HyperOS 1.10.0 OTA update, covering driver-assistance and safety features. The recall had no apparent short-term impact on sales momentum.

Xpeng delivered 9,160 vehicles, up 12.7% week-on-week, with the M03 contributing 3,740 units and the P7 adding 1,770.

CEO He Xiaopeng previously revealed that the company’s MONA brand will enter Europe next year, with several models planned before 2026. Meanwhile, the extended-range X9 has been filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, signaling an accelerated product strategy.

Li Auto reported 8,580 units, a 6.4% increase from 8,066 the week before. The L series accounted for 5,770 units, the i8 for 1,140, and the Mega for 670.

On September 26, the company will officially launch the all-new five-seat pure-electric SUV Li L6, expected to be priced between RMB 250,000–300,000 ($35,100–42,100). CEO Li Xiang stated that the i6, i8, and Mega combined are targeted for monthly sales of 18,000–20,000 units.

NIO Inc. delivered 6,666 vehicles, up 8.1% week-on-week. The NIO brand contributed 2,577 units, while the ONVO brand sold 2,777 units, including 2,411 L90s.

Firefly, NIO’s premium small EV line, recorded 1,312 insured units, far surpassing the MINI EV’s 317, smart’s 765, and Volkswagen ID.3’s 552. As CEO William Li highlighted, Firefly has become the leading model in China’s premium compact EV segment.

The third-generation ES8 launched at “NIO Day 2025” on September 20. Li revealed that pre-orders have already exceeded the annual production capacity of 40,000 units. With capacity ramping to 15,000 units per month by December, sales are expected to rise sharply by year-end.

Overall, Week 38 sustained a positive trajectory for China’s NEV sector in mid-September.

Tesla’s two consecutive weeks of gains stood out, BYD remained firmly on top, while Leapmotor, HIMA, and Xiaomi all maintained stable growth.
