China’s Gotion Advances All-Solid-State Battery to Pilot Production, Plans Vehicle Trials by 2027

Gotion unveiled its first-gen “Jinshi” all-solid-state battery last year, featuring an energy density of 350 Wh/kg—more than 40% higher than mainstream NCM lithium-ion cells.

On October 13, Gotion High-Tech told investors that it has achieved a key breakthrough in all-solid-state battery technology. Its “Jinshi” solid-state cell has entered the pilot-scale mass production phase, and the company has begun designing a 2 GWh production line.

Gotion disclosed a year ago that it planned to begin small-batch vehicle trials of its all-solid-state battery in 2027, with mass production expected by 2030.

In May last year, the company unveiled the first-generation Jinshi solid-state cell, delivering an energy density of 350 Wh/kg—more than 40% higher than mainstream NCM lithium-ion batteries—and successfully passing a 200 °C heat chamber test in a single run, far exceeding the national standard of 130 °C.

At the launch event, Dr. Pan Ruijun, head of the Jinshi battery program, said that “100% of the core equipment on this experimental line is locally sourced, and vehicle road testing has already begun.”

Gotion’s technical roadmap centers on micron-scale electrolytes, ultra-thin coated cathodes, and 3D silicon anodes, enabling a driving range of up to 1,000 km on a single charge. Its first solid-state pilot line has now been fully commissioned with a yield rate of 90%.

At the company’s Global Technology Conference in May this year, Gotion further announced the completion of a 0.2 GWh mid-scale pilot line for solid-state cells, developed entirely in-house and protected by more than 30 patents.

Notably, at the China Solid-State Battery Innovation Forum earlier this year, automakers including CATL, BYD, FAW and GAC also disclosed their progress and deployment plans for solid-state batteries.

Based on published timelines, most OEMs aim to begin vehicle validation of solid-state cells between 2026 and 2027, with volume production expected around 2030.

EVTank forecasts that global shipments of semi-solid and solid-state batteries will exceed 10 GWh in 2025, potentially surpassing 600 GWh by 2030, translating into a market value of more than RMB 250 billion ($35.2 billion).

According to the latest figures from SNE Research, global EV battery installations reached 691.3 GWh between January and August 2025, up 34.9% YoY. Gotion ranked seventh with 25.1 GWh installed, a 71.8% increase YoY, taking a 3.6% market share.
