BYD Dynasty’s 10 Millionth Vehicle Rolls Off the Line as Da Han Nears Launch

Takeaways
  • BYD marked its Dynasty lineup reaching 10 million units by rolling off a Da Han, underscoring a strategic push to retest premium segments amid heavier volume focus elsewhere.
  • Da Han pre-sales list three BEV variants priced RMB 249,900–299,900 (about $37,220–$44,670); Dynasty sold 170,842 vehicles in August, with cumulative Dynasty sales crossing 10 million.
  • Direct competition targets mid‑to‑premium EV buyers, but execution risks include falling Han/Tang monthly volumes, heavy product‑mix shift to mainstream models, and pressure from a 22.5% H1 sales decline.

Lu Tian, general manager of sales for BYD’s Dynasty lineup, announced on Sept. 29 that the 10 millionth vehicle under the Dynasty lineup had rolled off the production line.

The milestone model is the Da Han, which is scheduled to officially launch on Oct. 13.

The model previously opened pre-sales at the Chengdu Auto Show, with three battery-electric variants priced at RMB 249,900-299,900 ($37,220-$44,670).

It took the Dynasty lineup nearly 13 years to reach its first 10 million vehicles. On Dec. 17, 2013, the Qin DM became the first model under the Dynasty series to go on sale.

By January 2026, the Dynasty lineup had accumulated approximately 8.86 million vehicle sales. It took less than nine months for cumulative sales to cross the 10 million mark.

Within BYD’s overall product portfolio, the Dynasty lineup has consistently been one of its largest sources of sales.

Of BYD’s first 15 million NEVs, the Dynasty lineup contributed approximately 9 million units, compared with about 6 million from the Ocean lineup.

The sales mix within the Dynasty lineup, however, has undergone a substantial shift.

In its early years, the Dynasty series entered the market with plug-in hybrid models such as the Qin DM, while the Han and Tang later became key models in the brand’s move upmarket and broader sales expansion.

By the end of 2025, cumulative sales of the Han family had reached approximately 1.09 million units, while the Tang family had sold about 890,000 units.

Since the beginning of 2026, however, monthly sales of both models have fallen to only several thousand units.

The Dynasty lineup sold 170,842 vehicles in August, up 13.9% year on year, bringing cumulative sales for the first eight months above 1.04 million units.

Within that total, the Han family sold just 2,997 units in August, while the Tang family sold 12,340 units.

Combined, the two accounted for only about 9% of the Dynasty lineup’s monthly sales.

By comparison, the Yuan family sold 84,550 units, the Song family 47,350 units and the Qin family 21,826 units during the month.

Together, the three accounted for about 89.8% of the Dynasty lineup’s August sales.

In terms of its actual sales mix, the Dynasty lineup has clearly shifted away from flagship models such as the Han and Tang toward more mainstream price segments.

The Dynasty lineup is also facing challenges beyond a product-mix adjustment.

In the first half of 2026, combined sales from the Dynasty and Ocean lineups fell by approximately 438,000 units from a year earlier.

The 22.5% decline has piled concentrated pressure on the brand’s two long-standing core sales channels.

BYD is using overseas markets to offset changes in the domestic market.

It’s overseas sales reached 188,700 vehicles in August, accounting for about 43% of total monthly sales and rising 134.6% year on year.

BYD’s first-half financial results showed that overseas revenue reached RMB 181.268 billion ($27.002 billion).

This accounts for 52.57% of total revenue, surpassing the domestic market for the first time.

At the same time, BYD has raised its 2026 overseas sales target from the previous 1.5 million vehicles to 1.9 million-2 million, with its 2027 target set above 2.5 million units.

Against this backdrop, choosing the Da Han as the 10 millionth Dynasty vehicle gives the model the task of testing the premium market again, while models such as the Yuan and Song serve as the volume drivers.
