Xiaomi Auto Sets Up Architecture Division, Led by Lei Jun

The Architecture Division is tasked with defining the next-generation tech framework for Xiaomi’s smart EVs.

On October 28, according to Chinese media reports, Xiaomi Auto recently announced an organizational restructuring.

This round of adjustments established a brand new first-tier department: the Architecture Department, responsible for deliberating and defining the next-generation technology architecture for smart electric vehicles. The new department reports directly to Lei Jun, and its members include heads of some R&D departments and core technical staff.

Informed sources revealed that Cui Qiang, the head of vehicle R&D, has joined the Architecture Department. The former head of e-Power, Wang Zhensuo, has replaced Cui Qiang in leading vehicle R&D.

The output of this new department will influence the technical direction and foundation of Xiaomi’s next-generation products. This is not only a key variable for Xiaomi in responding to future competition but will also impact its long-term market positioning.

For automobile manufacturers, strategizing forward-looking technology has always been an indispensable imperative. However, in common industry practice, this function is often undertaken by second-tier departments or project groups, typically reporting to the CTO or R&D director.

By elevating this function to a first-tier department led personally by Lei Jun, Xiaomi demonstrates its significant investment in forward-looking work and the importance it places on the company’s technological positioning.

While implementing the organizational restructuring, Xiaomi Auto’s delivery performance is equally remarkable.

Data shows that in September 2025, Xiaomi Auto’s monthly deliveries surpassed 40,000 units for the first time, setting a new historical record for the brand. In the first nine months of 2025, cumulative deliveries have exceeded 300,000 units, achieving approximately 86% of the adjusted annual target of 350,000 units.

According to the plan, by 2026, Xiaomi Auto also plans to launch a range-extended electric SUV codenamed N3. The introduction of this model will help Xiaomi Auto enter the range-extended SUV market currently occupied by brands like Li Auto and AITO.
