Launched in July this year, the Sealion 06 belongs to BYD’s Ocean Network lineup and is available in both plug-in hybrid (DM-i) and battery-electric (EV) versions.

Priced between RMB 139,800 and RMB 163,800 ($19,600–$22,900), the model targets the mid-size SUV market, competing directly with core models such as the Song PLUS.

The Sealion 06 DM-i is powered by BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system, achieving a fuel consumption of 3.5L/100 km under NEDC conditions when the battery is depleted, and offering a combined range of up to 1,670 km with a full tank and battery.

The Sealion 06 EV is built on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, equipped with 65.28 kWh and 78.72 kWh battery options, delivering a range of 520 to 605 km.

In terms of intelligent features, the Sealion 06 comes standard with BYD’s “DiPilot 100” triple-camera driver-assistance system and the “DiSus-Cloud C” intelligent suspension, supporting highway pilot assist and full-scenario automated parking. The interior includes triple interactive screens and the DiLink connected infotainment system.

Earlier this month, reports from ChinaEV Home suggested that BYD would halt production of the Song PLUS. In response, the company clarified that the Sealion 06 is the successor to the Song PLUS, and that the production stop represents a routine product transition.

The clarification also marks a strategic shift in BYD’s mid-size SUV lineup, gradually transitioning from the “Song” series to the “Sealion” series.

According to BYD’s latest sales data, the company sold 393,100 vehicles in September. Among them, the Sealion lineup accounted for 54,000 units, while the Song PLUS (Ocean series) contributed 18,000 units.

Specifically, the Sealion 06 achieved sales of 30,500 units in September, ranking second among all mid-size SUVs.
