SAIC MG4 Anxin Edition Starts Delivery in China as First Mass-Produced Semi-Solid-State EV

The MG4 Semi-Solid-State Anxin Edition is equipped with a 53.95 kWh manganese-based lithium-ion semi-solid-state battery jointly developed by SAIC and QingTao Energy.

On the evening of December 18, SAIC MG announced the start of deliveries for the all-new MG4 Semi-Solid-State Anxin Edition, described as the world’s first and currently the only mass-produced production vehicle equipped with a semi-solid-state battery.

The model is also the first production car to introduce a semi-solid-state battery, an integrated thermal management system, CTB (cell-to-body) battery integration technology, and intelligent driver assistance features into the RMB 100,000 ($14,000) mainstream family car segment.

Unlike the standard version, the MG4 Semi-Solid-State Anxin Edition is equipped with a 53.95 kWh manganese-based lithium-ion semi-solid-state battery jointly developed by SAIC and QingTao Energy.

Through a “solidification” design applied to both the separator and electrolyte, the battery system reduces the risk of thermal runaway at a structural level, while improving thermal stability and limiting volume change.

The pack delivers an energy density of 185 Wh/kg, around 15% higher than comparable lithium iron phosphate batteries.

In terms of performance, the MG4 Semi-Solid-State Anxin Edition is powered by a 120 kW motor and offers a CLTC-rated driving range of 537 km.

It supports 140 kW DC fast charging, with official figures indicating that around 400 km of range can be added in 12 minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -25°C, the range retention rate reaches 72%.

On the safety front, the semi-solid-state battery system has passed multiple extreme-condition tests conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, with testing standards exceeding national and industry benchmarks by more than 20%.

Across six major test scenarios—including rebar penetration, three-directional extreme cell compression, high-salinity corrosive liquid exposure, extreme cold freezing, underbody ball impact, and high-temperature fire exposure—the MG4 semi-solid-state battery system successfully met all requirements.

Overall vehicle safety has also received international recognition. In the latest Euro NCAP crash tests, the MG4 achieved a five-star rating, earning high scores in adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, and safety assist systems.

The all-new MG4 was officially launched at the Chengdu Auto Show in August this year, with a unified retail price starting at RMB 68,800 ($9,632) and a limited-time subsidized price from RMB 65,800 ($9,212).

The Semi-Solid-State Anxin Edition is priced at RMB 102,800 ($14,392), with a limited-time subsidized price of RMB 99,800 ($13,972).

Sales data show that MG4 retail sales reached 11,790 units in September, followed by 11,480 units in October and deliveries of 13,574 units in November, maintaining monthly volumes above 10,000 units for several consecutive months.
