The Li Auto i8 covered over 100 collision test scenarios in this evaluation.
The China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI) evaluation results were announced, and the Li Auto i8, a six-seater SUV, received an overall 5G (Excellent) rating.
With this achievement, all Li Auto models that have participated in C-IASI evaluations have now received the highest safety rating.
It should be noted that this evaluation of the Li Auto i8 was conducted in accordance with the newly released China Insurance Automotive Safety Index Management Measures (2023 Edition, 2024 Revision).
The new “Measures” introduce specialized testing protocols for new energy vehicles, providing a more comprehensive assessment of vehicle capabilities in areas such as active and passive safety, as well as battery safety.

Looking at the specific evaluation indices, the Li Auto i8 received a G (Excellent) rating in the categories of “Crashworthiness & Repair Economy” and the “New Energy Vehicle Special Assessment.” It achieved G+ (Excellent Plus) ratings in “Occupant Safety,” “Pedestrian Safety,” and “Vehicle Assistance Safety.”
Here is a detailed breakdown.
Crashworthiness & Repair Economy Index: G (Excellent)
This evaluation comprises five sub-categories. Data shows that the Li Auto i8 received an A (Good) rating in both Structural Crashworthiness and Repair Economy. Specifically, the total number of structural crashworthiness defects was 3, and the comprehensive repair ratio was 5.96%.
Furthermore, it received G (Excellent) ratings in both Repairability and Collision Compatibility. The results indicated 7.5 repairability defects. Finally, in Low-speed Active Safety, it achieved an S (Superior) rating with a score rate of 89.18%.

Occupant Safety Index: G+ (Excellent Plus)
First, some background on the Li Auto i8’s material and structural information. The body of the Li Auto i8 utilizes a high proportion of high-strength steel and aluminum alloy, reaching 84.7%. Its torsional stiffness is 49,500 N·m/deg. Additionally, the model employs self-developed 2000IH hot-formed steel, which improves toughness by approximately 22%.
Based on this, the Li Auto i8 achieved ‘G (Excellent)’ ratings in all crash tests, including the Driver-side Small Overlap Frontal Crash, Passenger-side Small Overlap Frontal Crash, Moderate Overlap Frontal Crash, and Side Impact Crash.

Pedestrian Safety Index: G+ (Excellent Plus)
In this round of testing, the Li Auto i8 scored 11.17 points (out of 18) in the Headform Test, 7.729 points (out of 9) in the Legform Test, 1.627 points (out of 3) in the Upper Legform Test, and a full 18 points in the AEB VRU (Vulnerable Road User) test.
The final comprehensive score was 38.526 points (out of a possible 48).

Vehicle Assistance Safety Index: G+ (Excellent Plus)
This evaluation included four scoring items: AEB C2C (Car-to-Car), LSS (Lane Support System), E-call (Emergency Call), and Headlamps. The Li Auto i8 received full marks in both LSS and E-call, ultimately achieving a perfect score of 83 points.

New Energy Vehicle Steering Index: G (Excellent)
The steering test comprised four sub-items: Undercarriage Impact, Underbody Scraping, Wading, and Safety Design. The Li Auto i8 received perfect scores in all.
Specifically, in the power battery’s moderate undercarriage impact collision test, the crashworthiness evaluation was A (Good), and the repairability evaluation was G (Excellent).
Li Auto officially stated that beyond the conditions required by regulations and certifications, its testing matrix encompasses accident types common in real-world scenarios, such as 360-degree pillar impacts and multi-scenario rollovers. It comprehensively covers over 100 collision test conditions.
