On March 5, NIO’s small electric vehicle brand firefly officially launched in Thailand, marking the brand’s entry into its second right-hand-drive market after Singapore.

Thailand, an important RHD automotive market in Southeast Asia, has seen steady growth in demand for electric vehicles in recent years.

As local new-energy policies continue to take effect, consumer acceptance of battery-electric models has gradually increased, attracting a growing number of overseas brands to the market.

To deepen its presence in Thailand, firefly has appointed Thonburi BlueSky Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Thailand’s leading automotive group Thonburi Group, as its general distributor and agency partner in the country.

The partnership will leverage the group’s sales network and after-sales service system to support the brand’s local rollout.

Meanwhile, the RHD model of the firefly will make its official debut at the 47th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2026).

Firefly was first launched in China on April 19, 2025, targeting the entry-level electric vehicle segment priced around RMB 100,000 ($13,900).

The model debuted with two variants — the Freedom Edition and Glow Edition — with official guide prices ranging from RMB 119,800 to RMB 125,800 ($16,650–$17,480).

The brand later introduced three limited special editions: “Nomad Mellowd,” “Night Creatures,” and “Pegasus Rhapsody.”

In Singapore, the model’s pricing was revealed earlier this year during the Singapore Motor Show, where a limited-time promotional price of S$169,999 ($126,300) including the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) was announced.

In terms of sales performance, firefly remains relatively small in scale in China but has been growing rapidly.

During a recent livestream event, NIO revealed that the model has attracted more than 40,000 users in less than a year since launch, and additional special editions are expected to be introduced this year.

The latest data show that in February NIO delivered 20,797 vehicles across its three brands, up 57.6% year on year but down 23.5% from the previous month. Among them, the firefly brand delivered 2,657 units.

In terms of global expansion, NIO is pushing overseas growth through multiple brands simultaneously.

To date, firefly has entered 10 countries worldwide, including the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Austria and Portugal.

According to its roadmap, the brand plans to further expand into Europe, the United States and Southeast Asia, with a long-term target of entering nearly 40 countries and regions.
