BYD Ocean Series General Manager Zhang Zhuo announced that the Seal 08 will launch on July 2. Positioned as a flagship mid-to-large sport sedan, the model becomes the first vehicle in BYD’s premium “8 Series” lineup under the Ocean brand.
The Seal 08 serves a broader strategic role for BYD. As the Ocean Series’s first high-end sport sedan, it aims to lift the brand’s pricing power while expanding BYD’s presence in the increasingly competitive sport sedan segment.
Built from the previously unveiled Ocean-S concept, the Seal 08 adopts BYD’s latest Ocean Aesthetics design language. The front fascia features split headlights with slim daytime running lights, while the rear receives a ripple-style full-width LED light bar integrated into the vehicle’s shoulder line.

Exterior colors include Obsidian Black, Sea Mist Purple, Liquid Silver, Akas Coral Red, and Cloud White. Interior themes include Frost Beige, Dawn Beige, Sunset Brown, and Midnight Purple.
Dimensionally, the Seal 08 measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, 1,505 mm in height, paired with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. Overall proportions place it close to the BMW 5 Series in size.
The cabin adopts a wraparound luxury layout. Standard equipment includes a 15.6-inch floating central display, digital instrument cluster, head-up display, electronic column shifter, pearl-effect decorative trim, soft-close doors, and laminated acoustic glass throughout the cabin.

Front occupants receive dual zero-gravity seats. Both front and rear seats feature leg rests, ventilation, heating, and massage functions.
On the intelligent driving front, LiDAR comes standard across the lineup. The vehicle runs BYD’s God’s Eye B driver-assistance system, supporting highway navigation, urban navigation, and automated parking functions.
Chassis hardware stands out as a key selling point. The Seal 08 adopts a double-wishbone front suspension, five-link rear suspension, DiSus-A air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and road-preview technology. The setup seeks to balance ride comfort with agility.
All variants receive BYD’s flash-charging technology and second-generation Blade batteries as standard. Buyers can choose between battery-electric or plug-in hybrid powertrains; both configurations offer rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive versions.
BYD has yet to disclose official battery capacities. Regulatory filings suggest the battery-electric model will offer 76 kWh or 92 kWh packs. CLTC range reaches 775 km or 905 km for rear-wheel-drive variants, and 785 km for the all-wheel-drive version.\

The plug-in hybrid variant carries a 45.36 kWh battery pack. CLTC electric-only range reaches 300 km or 270 km, depending on configuration.
Pricing remains undisclosed. A previously leaked dealer procurement document showed a purchase price of roughly RMB 250K ($36,800) for the 784 km AWD flagship variant, likely the range-topping version. Industry estimates place retail pricing between RMB 220K ($32,400) and RMB 250K ($36,800).

The Seal 08 enters one of China’s most crowded premium EV segments. Key rivals include the Xiaomi SU7, Tesla Model 3, Zeekr 007, and XPeng P7+.
Competition is expected to intensify further as automakers continue to push larger batteries, advanced chassis systems, and high-level driver-assistance features into the RMB 200K-300K ($29,400-$44,100) price band.
BYD Ocean Series delivered 170,312 vehicles in May, making it the group’s largest sales contributor. Against that backdrop, the Seal 08 carries dual responsibilities: elevating the Ocean brand’s market positioning and securing a larger share of China’s fast-growing sport sedan market.
