- CATL dominates China’s July EV battery market with 42.33% share and 31.4 GWh installed.
- China’s domestic power battery installations hit 74.6 GWh in July, up 33.5% year‑on‑year.
- LFP batteries surged to 63.1 GWh, claiming 84.6% of July installations.
On Aug. 18, China’s Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA) released its monthly data for July 2026.
China’s combined production of power and energy storage batteries reached 218 GWh in July, up 62.9% year on year and 5.8% month on month.
Production for the first seven months totaled 1,286.9 GWh, up 54.9% YoY.

Combined sales of power and energy storage batteries reached 185.2 GWh in July, up 45.5% YoY but down 5.5% MoM.
Power battery sales totaled 129.1 GWh, accounting for 69.7% of total battery sales, while energy storage battery sales reached 56.1 GWh.
For the first seven months, combined sales of power and energy storage batteries totaled 1,164.6 GWh, up 48.1% YoY.
Exports remain an important source of incremental demand for China’s power battery industry.
China exported a combined 35.2 GWh of power and energy storage batteries in July, up 51.7% YoY but down 2.7% MoM, equivalent to 19% of monthly sales.

Power battery exports totaled 24 GWh, while energy storage battery exports reached 11.3 GWh. Combined exports for the first seven months reached 216.6 GWh, up 43.9% YoY.
This trend echoes the growth of complete vehicle exports. China’s automobile exports topped 1 million units for the second consecutive month in July.
NEV shipments accounted for more than 50% of total auto exports for the second consecutive month.
NEVs also accounted for more than 60% of monthly new-vehicle sales for the first time, while their cumulative share of sales exceeded 50% for the first time.
Driven by strong NEV demand, demand for power batteries also expanded. China’s domestic power battery installations reached 74.6 GWh in July, up 33.5% YoY but down 2.5% MoM.

By chemistry, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries continued to strengthen their lead, with installations reaching 63.1 GWh in July and accounting for 84.6% of total installations.
Ternary batteries accounted for 11.1 GWh during the same period.
During the first seven months, domestic power battery installations totaled 410.2 GWh, up 15.4% YoY. LFP battery installations reached 335.1 GWh, while ternary battery installations totaled 74.5 GWh.
By vehicle type, battery-electric vehicles remained the largest source of power battery demand.
BEVs accounted for 84.2% of power battery installations in July, compared with 15.7% for plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Industry concentration continued to shift toward leading battery makers. A total of 31 battery companies supplied batteries for vehicles in July, two fewer than a year earlier.

The top 10 suppliers accounted for 70.4 GWh of installations, or 94.3% of the overall market.
CATL remained the clear market leader, with 31.4 GWh of power battery installations in July and a 42.33% market share.
BYD ranked second with 14.26 GWh and a 19.23% share, giving the two leading suppliers a combined market share of 61.56%.
CALB, Gotion High-tech and EVE Energy followed, with power battery installations of 5.16 GWh, 4.66 GWh and 4.49 GWh, respectively, during the same period.
